Lord of the Rings.
And this is coming from someone who grew up in the 80s and 90s as a huge Star Wars fan. The years of bullshit tinkering of the original trilogy by Lucas has soured me on Star Wars.
Unaltered they're awesome movies. Lord of the Rings has them beat though.

As a Trilogy, LOTR is better simply because it was filmed all at once and the story flows because they are taken from books so there isn't alot of plot holes. But as individual movies, I would watch Star Wars and Empire any day of the week over any of the individual Lord of the Rings movies. Once you start watching Star Wars Trilogy as a trilogy and there are many contradictions, and Luke is kissing his sister, etc, that is when it loses its luster.

Foolish thinking. There is no denying the crap Lucas has pulled the past three decades, but the original three films upon release are undeniable to this day. Jackson wouln't have made LOTR without them.
