Lord of the Rings Extended Edition

That's funny, because as books, LotR is the 3rd best selling novel ever written. So, a few people must like the story.

Conversely, how many people have read the Star Wars novels, because of how great the story is?

Couldn't one say the same about Lucas concerning the LOTR books?Not that they're the primary influence on Star Wars but one of the many.

Star Wars gets the nod for me just because of the impact it had on me for this many years, but LOTR is the first trilogy to make me feel as an adult what I felt as a kid when I saw the OT.

A few people like Harry Potter too, doesn't mean it interests me.
And people don't need to read the Star Wars novels because they have always had the movies from the beginning, whereas the LOTR books were around LONG before the movies.

And people didn't need to go see the LotR movies, because they have always had the novels from the beginning.

Star Wars. As much as I like Lord of the Rings, I find it to get pretty boring in some parts.

Why wouldn't you see a well made movie adaption of a book you liked?

You think LOTR has better cinematophraphy than the Star Wars films? Are you nuts? Peter Suschitzky's work in Empire is photographic perfection.

Lord of the Rings has Star Wars beat on everything but nostalgic factor. I'll watch the original Star Wars trilogy through every so often and I enjoy it every time but I do realize that the reason I enjoy it so much isn't because of the great story, acting or writing but because it was a big part of my childhood.

LOTR were just three great movies.

Yes overall I thought Lesnie's work to be superior. He of course had the luxury of filming all 3 LOTR films. Suschitzky's work on Empire was indeed stellar .

The original theatrical STAR WARS trilogy > the original theatrical LOTR trilogy.

However, both the LOTR theatrical and extended > STAR WARS trilogy versions since 1997.

This is so easy, Star Wars. I don't care how much Lucas has fucked up with all the changes LotR is a complete borefest.

Why wouldn't you read the novel of a well made movie you liked?

Not ROTK: EE. Jackson totally fucked that one up because he still decided to work on it after he won all those Oscars. He didn't care. The pacing and flow of Extended ROTK is completely fucked up and has at least one scene of complete character assassination.

Star Wars. Too much fucking walking in LOTR. Even the Trees walked in that movie! Plus Star Wars had the better and more logical ending. LOTR should've ended ROTK by 30minutes with Sam sucking Frodos cock and Bricking in each other's mouths!

As movie trilogies, I know why Star Wars (original) is so important to so many, including me. I'm a guy, born in the 1970's. Star Wars was huge in my life. But the prequels sucked, and Lucas' continual fucking with the original trilogy sucks, and no matter how much you want to say this is only about the original trilogy, the existence of the prequels, and what Lucas has done to the originals, diminishes them somewhat, at least to me.

But, if the Hobbit movies coming out suck anywhere near as badly as the Star Wars prequels, then I will come back here and eat my internet hat. But I don't think that will happen, as the material upon which they draw has been known and loved for more than half a century.

As works of art, I believe the Lord of the Rings *novels, movies, and universe* are a greater work than the Star Wars *movies and universe.*
