Thanks for...proving my point? I don't even know what post you were replying to or why you bothered to (mistakenly?) quote my reply, as I referenced everything you just said far more succinctly.
Perhaps my reference to Tomb Raider instead of outright saying Showgirls went over your head. What I said proved your point? You don't seem to understand why women would want to watch Magic Mike, but apparently you DO understand why men would want to watch Showgirls. What's the difference other than boys have a penis and girls have a vagina? |

Good for MacFarlane. Say what you will about FG and all the other shows he does (I personally love American Dad), he's a funny guy when he's unleashed.

There was a huge line for Magic Mike tonight
It will win #1 I'm guessing. |
Re: Fourth of July Week(end) 2012 Box Office Extravaganza Thread
"Ted is likely to not only win the box office, but set a record for R-rated comedies. Variety reports that early trending of Friday grosses indicate the film is looking to make somewhere between the high $40 million to low $50 million range. That would be good enough to top The Hangover's record of $44,979,319 as the highest non-sequel R-rated comedy opening weekend of all time. The film will likely earn between the high teens to $20 million for Friday alone.
Magic Mike is looking to make in the low $30 million range for the weekend, with a low-to-mid teens range for today. Tyler Perry's Madea's Witness Protection is expected to bring in somewhere between the low to mid $20 million rage for the weekend, while People Like Us is looking to disappoint with between $4 million and $5 million for the weekend." I figured both Ted and Magic Mike would do really well, but I thought Magic Mike would eek it out. Ted is going to surpass even my high 40 mil prediction, wow. MM is going to make a lil less than I thought though. I wonder if moving ahead of Spidey helped Ted at all. They'd owe a thanks to GI Joe haha. |

It's interesting to think where G.I. Joe would've landed in this.

Moonrise Kingdom (Focus) Week 6 [854 Theaters] PG13 Friday $1.3M, Weekend $4.4M, Cume $17.9M Looks like I was wrong about Perry. The man is going to have his second biggest opening weekend despite the fact that others and myself thought Lionsgate was stupid for releasing his film right on the 4th of July weekend. I don't think most were expecting that large of a second-weekend drop for a Pixar release, but it's still early and it could outperform this weekend and the days that follow. I'm not surprised Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter saw a near 70% drop. |
Re: Fourth of July Week(end) 2012 Box Office Extravaganza Thread
Chalk up another hit for new star Channing Tatum but with a twist because he and Soderbergh funded the film themselves since Magic Mike is partially based on the actor’s experiences as a Florida stripper when he was 19. Deadline is now saying 45 million opening weekend (holy shit) for Magic Mike, 51 million for Ted and 26 for Madea. |
Re: Fourth of July Week(end) 2012 Box Office Extravaganza Thread
so wait, Magic Mike isn't about a magician?!

Re: Fourth of July Week(end) 2012 Box Office Extravaganza Thread
Is Channing Tatum a good looking guy? I know he's got abs, but his face looks kind of, I don't know, off.

Can't think of any other pictures like Magic Mike that women have gone to in droves and turned into successes. Can anyone else? Movies salivating over semi-nude bodies seems to be confined to male nerds for the most part. And porn.
