...but no. I did not see it in the movie. Maybe it'll be in the 3 hours director's cut *crosses fingers*.

In case they want to do a prequel to the prequel?

a better pic of the terrain on LV 426:

that's very clear that we're somewhere different

Not really. I mean those are two different angles. I can see them being the same.

Yes. Show took several shots and down a bunch of pills.

Black slime weaponized infection, etc..

That was the turning point in the hypothesis. "Space Jesus" was killed by man, so The Engineers would have killed man in return for that transgression. Somewhere along the line the urns were opened and the Engineers got themselves perished.

Not w/ the terrain. That terrain is wildly different from 223

No it isn't. And if it is, maybe it's because they didn't get it perfect in production. Who knows...

The terrain on LV 223 is different than LV 426.

Do you remember in Alien when the Nostromo landed by the ship there were all those spikes of rock all over the place. LV 223 was a smooth moon by all accounts. We'll know more when the Art of Prometheus releases this Tuesday. I'm stoked.

We'll see. Maybe they Terra Formed some smoothness!! :grunt:

Anyway, I'll say this....those Engineer ships are TOUGH as FUCK! I mean shit, it got slammed by another ship that exploded...and it hit the ground....rolled like a wheel...then fell on its side and smushed a Hottie.

The whole time...IT NEVER BROKE APART!!

On another track entirely (and maybe its wishful thinking) how does Fassbinder's performance project into a Oscar nod? I could see him getting at least a supporting actor nomination.

I saw this last night. Sure, it had some big flaws, but I enjoyed it. Fassbender was awesome. I've only seen him in this, X-men: First Class, and Inglorious Basterds and he knocked it out of the park in all three. I think that kid's got the goods.

These texts between an Engineer and Shaw are pretty funny (contains spoilers):

He's too good for an Oscar...and he's dead.

Also, how come the Prometheus has nice GUI interfaces and tablet computers, but the Nostromo has a TRS-80 and printed magazines?

It was just a commercial towing spacecraft. Not much tech was needed to run the ship.

All will be revealed in James Cameron's PROMETHEUSES.

Re: Prometheus aka Прометей (Scott, 2012) — The Reviews Thread

The plot didn't feel that complicated to me. I went in expecting more Lost nonsense. But I thought it was mostly explained. And it's not like the movie is there to work on some cerebral, metaphysical, existential level. It was just a mainstream sci-fi movie that toys with some "alien gods" ideas.

That said, I loved it. I feel like there is a 3 hour cut out there, where the characters chill out and talk. 2 hours just wasn't enough. This was a very simply plotted film. But it still fufilled what I was looking for. I'm actually anxious to see it again. And the IMAX 3D was stunning. Best 3D I've seen yet.

Spoiler:

1. The squid in the lab grew so large, because it grows fast. It grew from one cell, to that "baby" size in a day.

2. I asssumed that they wanted to destroy Earth because it was a possible threat. That's why the engineer freaked when he saw humans woke him up. I think that David did try to be friends with the engineer. He was programmed by Weyland and was there to figure out how to help Weyland live longer. The story did not indicate that David gained human emotion. But when he explained that they were humans from Earth, the engineer wasn't happy.

3. Problems caused by David were at the whim of Weyland, who had only days to live after he woke. Weyland was reckless and thought he'd find a way to lengthen his life.

4. Guy Pierce put on the makeup because there is a deleted scene with a younger Weyland.

5. Black stem cell goo + engineer = xenomorph (doesn't matter which engineer it is). Just like mealworms + goo = snake things.

6. The hyroglyphics never said that the engineers wanted to be found or meet up with humans. They were just hyroglyphics, indicating that star map. For all we know, primitive humans kicked some alien ass thousands of years ago and the aliens ran, in hopes of developing the stem cell goo and destroying humans.

So the way I saw the movie (this is more for me than you)...

1. Engineers land and work on planet. They use the planet as a "remote test site" for the black stem cell goo. The engineer in the begining would have been the one who started the growing process. It sacrificed itself so the other engineers could harvest the black goo for a long time, in mass quantites (I don't think it had anything to do with terraforming).

2. During their work there, the black stem cell goo gets out of control and kills everything. We saw the dead engineers. But we don't know what killed them. It could have been the mealworms + black goo = snake things. Or any other living organism that the black goo attached itself to. You know, we only saw a square mile of the planet. There could have been some Chutulu sonofabitch on the other side. Or maybe some xenomorphs had already developed (and ran, and lived/died elsewhere on the planet).

3. 2000 years later, the crew find them on that planet. They're pointed there through the hyroglyphics. But the hyroglyphics never said, "hey, these guys want to meet you".

4. They explore and wake up the one engineer. Engineer is not happy about humans finding him. Humans are viewed as a threat. Even if they weren't in the threatening position that David and Weyland created, humans still would have found the engineer.

5. Awakened engineer tries to carry on the plan of destroying Earth (you'd think we'd have Earth defenses anyways in a time of lighspeed travel, whatever). The badass captain stops that plan. Everyone dies. Except lady and robot, who are off in space with an insurmountable amount of stem cell goo that could kill everyone on the engineer's planet. And turn the whole planet into Xenomorphs. Unless they're really shooting for something else, I think that's where the sequel would go.

Really, the only thing that made me suspend disbelief was when the just tore that squid out of her womb. They way she just tore the cord out felt silly. They go through all of that effort to create some sort of real world (this wasn't Men in Black), and then they couldn't tighten up that scene a little?

Because the Nostromo is an antique cargo ship. Kind of like the Bebop ship on Cowboy Bebop. It's not a trillion dollar exploration ship that's housing Weyland family.

At least, I'd hope they explain it like that.

And I guess that leaves questions definately not answered...

1. Humans may have met the makers of man. But who made the Engineers?

2. Why were humans created on Earth? The Annunaki "gold miners" plot?

 yep i was thinking this even before seeing this flick. Prequels made many years later often suffer from making the mistake of having technology seem way more advanced than the tech in the original film. They almost never pay attention to this.
