And in case anyone can't handle the bitching, let me say I can't wait to go see this again! :)

Nope, I think the Dome only had 3D showings and I hate 3D quite a bit.

There you go. See, so it wasn't "just brushed off" like some are saying. It was acknowledged.

A quick line, and then they move on. That seems like brushed off to me :) Given he knew what was inside her and was partially the cause of it, I would think he would have more interest in it.

Neither of those two things was ever mentioned or apparently even thought about again by any of the characters, including the ones who were knocked out by their infected patient.

And yeah, that's what I meant too. It seemed like a few on board that ship wanted to put Shaw to sleep quite a bit, but I guess not enough once she escaped.

I didn't have a problem with her running around hurt though; fancy medical device and painkillers abound, I'm ok with since they at least explained it.

weren't they w/ Weyland? I didn't think they were knocked out just knocked about. If they weren't...then...what happened to them?

There was a good movie in there somewhere but the script was pretty horrible and the characters were paper thin. Why staff a spaceship full of scientists to go that far only to kill them all off?
When characters start doing stupid things in order to move the plot along, you know you are in trouble. Petting the cute alien in the black goo?
The best quote I have seen says it all. Prometheus was like opening a Box from Tiffany's and getting a mug from the dollar store.
Let's face it, they used the Alien connection, that wasn't needed, to get people into the theatre.

This thread is huge and hard to parse, and I'm sure my question has been asked but is there an "official" answer to...
Spoiler:
The HUGE continuity error between this and Alien...in Alien the "Space Jockey" is found in the seat of his spacecraft. Here, he's not even on the ship when his chest bursts, and he looks to be in no condition to get back!

I can't tell if this is sarcastic or not. It's Groucho.

Just got back and im a bit let down. I think my comparison is with Godzilla '98.

If you think of G 98 as a Godzilla film you end up with a campy giant monster film that works on its own. Fun but nothing mind blowing. If you DO connect it to the G series, you kinda hate it. I chose long ago not to link it to the G-films.

So...as long as i keep the connection to Alien films to a minimum Prometheus works as a stand alone sci fi flick with awesome visuals and an ok plot. I only cared for Shaw, the Captain and his guys( brave mutherfuckers), and David.

I will say this....GOD DAMN Theron is distractingly hot on screen. I mean daaayum! Did the Cap hit that? I lucky Brothah.....

I don't knowi if this has been posted yet but this article i find has a GREAT and very interesting theory about the movie. It's very long but please take the time to read it!

Saw the movie last night and loved it. even before reading his theory i still loved the movie and was never bored one second. i loved all the sci fi aspects and visually it was really awesome! Great cast too.

But reading more into the mythology of it from that article made me appreciate the movie even MORE!

The only thing i don't quite understand and he doesn't really go in to is :

Spoiler:
How did the Engineers all die? We saw from the first hologram they were running away from something, what was it? i know they were building this black goo to kill the humans, but how did it turn on them in the first place?

Official, no.
Spoiler:
The ship in alien was a different ship of the same type. The only problem there is that it kind of hints that the Jockeys are kind of lousy at maintaining control of what they create.

holy shit, really? It's really simple.

We're still not to that point in the story yet. Different LV. Sooooo we don't know wtf happened at the other site just yet.

I questioned that myself, then realized that is was a totally different ship on a totally different planet.

lolwut?

You're telling me that:

Spoiler:
The ship in Prometheus was different than the one than the one in Alien, it just coincidentally crash-landed in the exact same position?

Is there a way to change my rating in the poll? I want to remove a star.

^ No. If you look, it wasn't like that in the first Alien.

Also...LV 426 was kind of fucked up looking in Alien. LV 223 isn't like that.

one little continuity thing possibly...after..I guess I'll spoiler cuz then people will stop bitching in a REVIEW thread...

Spoiler:
Shaw almost gets killed by The Engineer and escapes that...you see her hand ungloved. Isn't she supposed to be covered all the way from the environment outside of the ship?

As I was one of the first ragging on the ship crash element, I went back and looked and I was wrong as many have pointed out:
Spoiler:
The ships are actually horizontally flipped, leaving no room to argue they are the same.

I'm guessing the suits are more for temperature control and integration with the gear than survival purposes. The atmosphere was lethal to breathe but not corrosive to bare skin.

They should have probably made it more clear, by having it on the side of a mountain or something.

well the crash site looked nothing like this:
http://le0pard13.files.wordpress.com...ens-lv-426.jpg

in terms of terrain not...weather and light condition.

a better pic of the terrain on LV 426:

that's very clear that we're somewhere different

Also, what's the point of casting Guy Pearce and then putting him in ATROCIOUS old man makeup? Why not just case, you know, an actual old man?

Was the scene in the trailer of the Engineer extending his hand to Shaw, who's sitting on the ground, not in the film? The sequence where she let out the giant facehugger went by quickly and I thought the trailer insinuated one would help her.

Solid Snake 06-10-12 05:54 PM

Re: Prometheus aka Прометей (Scott, 2012) — The Reviews Thread

..I don't think you saw that correctly. It sure as hell didn't look like The Engineer was going to help her in that trailer.

Well it was slow moving so I didn't see it as a danger.
