Simonson's work on Thor was awesome. I didn't grow up with it but that man had laid down so much of what is still used today.

Beta Ray Bill works cuz it was it just was solid work on that arc. I didn't like Bill when I read some stuff with him in the 90s but one I read the quality stuff... I was a fan. Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes had a solid episode with him getting the hammer. Fuck. That show was awesome and sadly cancelled for... Avengers Assemble. Ugh.

Oh I disagree...they should kill off his whiney little ass; his character contributes nothing. Then actors taking these roles will know that once you read the script and agree to take the role don't bitch about it afterwards... I bet that would have a nice impact.

A part of me wondered if they hinted at him being in CA 3 so we won't expect anything to happen to him in A2. I only think they would kill that character because he's the easiest to get rid of for a new character without any backlash. I never liked Renner's casting in the first place.

You know who would have been an awesome Hawkeye? Sam Rockwell. Instead he was wasted on a minor villain in Iron Man 2.

That dude has charisma for days and could have made Hawkeye really pop the way Downey did with Stark. Instead we get a flat Hawkeye from Renner.

You mean you guys thought Hawkeye was written well and it's Renner's fault?

The character has yet to be explored. Renner had nothing to do with that character's quality. He followed Whedon's direction. Whedon was his own enemy with the use Hawkeye.

Yeah, didn't help that Hawkeye was just a mindless goon for half of Avengers. I don't really get the hate, I think he's fine.

Out of the group, Whedon didn't really make him as a necessary asset. Each one had their own thing and well... Barton really could have been not there and it would have been the same pretty much. Some neat moments but...he was pointless if slightly enjoyable.

See, I thought they made him way too dark/broody in that. Hawkeye's always been a happy-go-lucky guy, down to earth, clever and fun. None of those qualities were evident in Thor 1.

When they made Stark the wise-cracking anti-authority figure, he usurped poor ol' Clint's traditional role.

Actually, they made Stark into Bill Murray. They can still do Hawkeye justice.

Re: The Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015, Whedon)

Hawkeye wasn't a character in Thor, he was one of the most painfully obvious reshoots I've ever seen. It felt completely disconnected from the movie and did not need to be there. I liked Thor, but Hawkeye's shoehorned cameo was definitely the worst thing about it. It's even more forced than the Sam Jackson stuff in IM2.

The MCU is a mixture of the main 616 Marvel universe and the Ultimate universe.

Sam Jackson Fury, Hulk being a result of a failed attempt to recreate the super soldier formula, Chitauri, the Triskelion are all things from the Ultimate universe.

The MCU Hawkeye is also more based upon the Ultimate universe. Both Hawkeye and Black Widow were founding members in Ultimate, but not the main 616 universe. Hawkeye's movie costume much more resembles Ultimate than 616. Hawkeye was also a much more serious character in Ultimate... until that utterly idiotic scene of him using his fingernails as weapons... thank god that never made it into the movies.

Re: The Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015, Whedon)

I think Hawkeye is a great character that was not given a decent outing in the Avengers movie. I will ignore his role in Thor as it was so minor....but heck, even that was fine by me. For years i did not like the character, but over the last decade they have turned him into quite the badass. I think he will get a much better time in AoU. Renner is also a fine actor and i think he suits the role perfectly. There is no reason to kill the character off anytime soon. I am not sure how well a solo Hawkeye movie might be, but i am happy to keep him in ensemble pieces for the moment and maybe pop up in the next Cap movie. I find the character of Black Widow to be a worse onscreen translation. I felt her comic character had more going for her and that what we have seen onscreen has been average at best. She got the best gig in the last Cap movie, but i find her character to be pretty expendable. I am not a huge fan of Scarlett Johanssen as well, and i still wish Emily Blunt had managed to fit the role into her schedule.

Renner's Hawkeye is fine. You nerds just have nothing better to talk about.

No, I mean I can't stand Renner in just about anything he is in.

I don't like Renner either, his popularity confuses me.

I don't get the Renner hate; he's generally fine, but as a supporting character and not a leading man.

He's just very bland if you ask me. I guess as a supporting actor he's not terrible but he's nothing special in anything I've seen him in.

Jeremy Renner makes Bill Pullman seem like Al Pacino by comparison.
