Re: Kick-Ass 2 happening?

Love the first film to death but this trailer left me "meh". Hopefully Carrey is good in this (from the trailer it looks like it since I hardly recognized him).

I think it looks fun, but some of the rear projection work looks really awful.

I don't think that was rear projection but just really awful chroma key (green screen) work.

I was semi-interested until I remembered Matthew Vaughn wasn't directing. Do you really have faith, this guy will deliver? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jeff_Wadlow

Re: Kick-Ass 2 happening?

I watched the entire trailer and didn't realize that was Jim Carrey until his name came on the screen and I still thought, "What character is he? Ohhhhhh (when his character came back on the screen)"

I think a lot of the riffing on the comic book movie film genre might fall by the wayside here and this will be a bit more of just a knowing comic book film, but I'm in.

The original was the surprise film of the year for me when it came out and I'd sit through an entire sequel just for some more Hit Girl scenes. Just an incredibly fun character to see up on screen.

The first one had a budget of 28-30 million.

I'm thinking that part 2 may have cost less than that.

It just looks okay to me. Honestly though I didn't love the first one.

Millar claimed the budget is $40 million last year but McLovin said the actors had to take a cut in salary to get the film made.

The actor went on to reveal that the sequel actually has a smaller budget and that the cast all took pay cuts to make the movie happen. And while director Matthew Vaughn is not returning to helm the sequel, Jeff Waldlow is directing, Plasse said that Vaughn is still active on the script.

He's Katie Couric's nephew, which automatically disqualifies him in my book.

I don't mind that it has a cheesy, low-budget look. In fact, I think it helps. After all, they're cheesy, low-budget superheroes.

He's a friend of some friends...nice guy, mentored some short films I worked on, he used to go to the Virginia Film Festival every year as part of that mentoring process. He brought Tom Shadyac down one year as well. Hope he gets a legitimate shot.

I wouldn't go by what Millar says.

Message board will be proliferated with "Now there's a dog on your balls" and "act like a bitch, get slapped like a bitch" within a few hours.

There were a few Hit Girl shots that I'm sure are being used for creepy purposes on 4chan.

Re: Kick-Ass 2 happening?

I really hope this is better than the first movie. They turned a serviceable graphic novel in to a terrible movie.

Kickass 2 seems to be in the right direction. More on Hitgirl and the supporting players and less on Kick ass himself.

Hitgirl needs her own movie, and Jim Carrey's Stallone is funny.

Really disagree. I liked the comic book but I felt the changes made for the film were much better. The finale was much better than the comic book versions "Tonk You!"

Re: Kick-Ass 2 happening?

Millar is a fucking hack and the first movie made his comic not only palatable, but better. I can't imagine anyone who even thinks that empty piece of shit was "serviceable" has an opinion worth listening to. And the sequel was even worse.

The original Kick-Ass was a surprise, and one of the better movies that came out in its year. I don't have a lot of hope for the sequel, though. I wish Vaughn had come back.

The rocket pack is the stupidest piece of crap plot device I've ever seen. For a movie devoted to grounding wannabe superheroes, that was beyond retarded. And turning Big Daddy from a Punisher satire to a dumb ass Adam West satire was crap too. Such a shitty movie. And the graphic novels were barely all that to begin with.

Talk TO me not THROUGH me, sheesh. In either case, the movie missed the whole point of the graphic novel, and added a lot of shit to an already fractured story. The rocket pack was stupid, the changes to Big Daddy stunk, Nic Cage was miscast and brought down the movie, the obligatory happy ending was moronic. The only stroke of genius was Moretz as Hit Girl.

Judging Kick-Ass purely as a film, Cage practically made the movie. His wonky take on a vigilante super hero was perfect and his acting style of over the top dedication worked perfectly for the tone of the film. If I want anyone to be in a film that participates in and deconstructs a genre at the same time, it would be Cage. He is perfect for those endeavors because in a straight film he always seems to be acting above or beyond the script. With Kick-Ass it was the best marriage between a film's tone and Cage's style since Face/Off.
