Captain America - The First Avenger auction!

So I didn't know whether to put this in the collectible thread or not, so mods can merge this if they want.

I just left the Captain America movie auction and couldn't believe how expensive everything ended up being. This was my first movie auction so I don't know if this is just par for the course. To start there were 220 auction items which included basically anything that you might even consider buying from the movie as well as a couple pieces from Iron Man and Thor as well. I have the auction guide which listed "suggested" prices for all the items. However, only about 6 items sold for that suggested price or less. Everything else was usually at least twice th suggested price. I stayed for the entire 4 hours and marked down all the final prices.

The prices for the main items were: (the numbers are the item listing)
154 - Captain America Hero Costume; this is it, the badass WW2 costume that Steve Rogers had Stark make for him that comes with his signature Vibranium shield. Suggested price $20-30k. Final price $190k.

The bidding on this was just ridiculous with one guy in the front row just basically holding up his bidding card until everyone else just gave out. I love the suit and everything, but to put down almost $200,000 dollars literally made my jaw drop thinking about what else I could buy with that money. I guess it is good being in the 1%.

102 - Captain Ameria Hero Suit from POW rescue; this is the improvised suit with the leather jacket and triangle shield. Suggested $6-8k. Sold for $22,500.

135 - Captain America distressed Hero rescue suit; basically the same suit as above but with battle damage. This is what the Captain wore while leading the POWs back to base. Suggested $6-8k. Sold for $25k.

There were a couple triangle shields that sold for around $10-15k. The round Vibranium shields sold for around $20-25k.

Johann Schmidt's various costumes went for $15-20k. Heck even the Hydra costumes went for $10-15k, and there were quite a few of those up for sale too.

There were 6-8 Cosmic Cubes that went for around $3k each, the Hydra tank was $12k, Hydra motorcycles were $5-15k. You could get basically all of the costumes of every major and secondary character including Bucky and the Commandos and even Peggy's red dress as well as every weapon that was used on screen as well.

I was actually planning on getting some of the smaller stuff if I could, but was quickly priced out. If this is normal pricing then I am definitely going to save up some money for next time since I had a great time just checking everything out.

Btw, if anyone wants to know prices on any specific piece, I'd be happy to give it out.

Oh yeah, coupe other non Cap items:
209 - original full scale Mark II "autopsy" suit from Iron Man 2. This is what you saw being disassembled by Rhodey after he steals the suit from Tony to make what would be War Machine. Suggested $60-80k. Sold for $110k.

212 and 213 - Mjolnir war hammer from Thor. Suggested $4-6k. Sold for $16k and $19k.

Some of those prices sound crazy. I am a Captain America fan and his costume is not worth $200,000. It's not like the movie was a classic that will be well-regarded 30 years from now. Now the original Superman costume from the first Christopher Reeve movie on the other hand...

As I've always said, memorabilia auctions are only for the rich.

FOX has memorabilia auctions on Ebay (FOX VIP) that can end up being inexpensive depending on the popularity of the show and prop.

I've snagged two "24" props for under $60 each, since not many other people bid on them.

I'd like to know what business the people are in who made the high priced purchases.

Ok..."good" memorabilia. Items that people won't look at and ask "what the hell is THAT?"

Re: Captain America - The First Avenger auction!

I drooled over the stuff in the exhibit but didn't go to the actual auction. How much did the shield in ice go for? That was friggin cool. Thanks for posting...I was very curious about the selling prices!

Re: Captain America - The First Avenger auction!

The shield in ice went for $20k. All of the shields went for around 20-25k. I actually thought I had a chance on some of the items based off the suggested price, but I was seriously wrong.

Re: Captain America - The First Avenger auction!

Was it the studio that was putting these up for auction, and was the money going to charity?

Re: Captain America - The First Avenger auction!

I believe the only charity this was going to was some guy's pocket.
