Yet Tom Hanks is on this list.

Also, Jeremy Irons is on both lists...

And Klaus Kinski is on none :(

Great!

Since these threads don't have "Other" as a choice, I'll just wait and give someone a vote that didn't get one.

Toshiro Mifune and Klaus Kinski over everyone on that list.

Bobby D. has done some truly amazing stuff in the past.

Mickey Rooney is the greatest actor in the history of films.

I've never liked him. He's got talent and the whatnot. He did his thing and was good at it..but he is nowhere near being great. He's had a great career but I've never been surprised by his acting.

I'd agree w/ you on this...except he's dead. He doesn't follow the standard of what we need to hold up this thread by. Kinski is dead too.

I can't have enough Mifune. So sad to see how Kurosawa and Mifune ended their run like they did.

You know what's weird is that Gary Numan is older than Gary Oldman. :whofart:

Oh jeez, you expect me to read the OP now? What do you think I'm made of, reading glasses?

Of the older generation? Nice way to put it.
And, my answer would be Jack Lemmon but he's not on the list.

Might be because he's dead. Per the OP:

Hands down...De Niro

I don't think there's anyone who has adopted, changed, molded, protrayed and became the charaters he has. You see the character he has made and not the actor....

Cape Fear
The Ragging Bull
The Untouchables
The Deer Hunter
The Godfather
Meet The Parents
The Fockers
Taxi Driver
Goodfellas
Men of Honor

Is Tom Hanks really considered the "older generation"?

Of people still alive, how about Ian McKellan or Christopher Lee?

Meet The Parents
The Fockers

Let's just say I'd swap out those two for Mean Streets and Jacknife.

No doubt...they were put in just to show that anyone who can play two psychos in Taxi Driver and Cape Fear, then turn around and make you laugh in two comedies is on the extreme

Re: Who is the best actor of the older generation?

I'm just now discovering how great Robert Deniro is after having just recently seeing Taxi Driver and The Deer Hunter. Not really a fan of the characters he played in Raging Bull or Taxi Driver.

Peter O'Toole is pretty great.

Jeremy Irons is great too but I've only seen him in Dead Ringers and M. Butterfly.

I'd go with Jeremy Irons. Always forget it's him when watching his movies because it seems like he totally becomes the characters.

IMO Raging Bull & Taxi Driver are DeNiro's best performances.
If you like Irons you should see Reversal of Fortune & Damage.

Straw Dogs
The Graduate
Little Big Man

Death Of A Salesman
Lenny
