Alex Cross (Dir: Rob Cohen, S: Tyler Perry) -- 10/26/2012
Didn't even realize they were making this until a month ago and when I saw who was playing Alex Cross, I was disappointed. I liked Kiss the Girls and while Along Came a Spider wasn't great, it was passable entertainment. I don't know about Tyler Perry in the role. Also, being directed by Rob Cohen isn't exactly promising either.
The supporting cast includes: Rachel Nichols, Jean Reno, Edward Burns, Matthew Fox and John C. McGinley.

Not sure if it's being called "Alex Cross" or "I, Alex Cross", though apparently it's only loosely based on the novel.

I remember when it was announced, but I thought Perry was directing. Cohen directing doesn't make that news any better.

Kiss the Girls was okay, but Along Came a Spider was an abomination. Neither were very good adaptations from the novels. Not that the novels are all that good -- every one I've read had the exact same "twist" ending.

Tyler Perry is no worse a choice for Alex Cross than Morgan Freeman was. I've always "pictured" Denzel Washington when reading the books, but he's probably too old now to play Cross. Both the movies with Freeman are a pale comparison to the books...this one doesn't sound much better (apprarantly, it's only loosly based on one of the more-recent books..."I, Alex Cross", I believe).
According to the novels, Cross looks like a young Muhammad Ali, so Will Smith is probably the BEST choice for Cross, right?

BTW, just looked and it seems Summit is distributing it in theaters. The other two were Paramount releases.

According to the old thread, that's who was originally tapped 3 years ago (or however long ago it was). I would've loved to see him in the role.

Spoiler:
He's already 40 but could easily pass for younger.
I used to love the Cross books (before Patterson became a novel factory) and was always disappointed with the first two movies. Freeman is always awesome, but starting out so old left them with nowhere to go with the character.

Honestly, I haven't seen any of Tyler Perry's works as an actor except his brief part in Star Trek.
Tell me why does this guy get some much hate? Is it because he mostly makes those African-American and Diary of a Mad Black Woman dramas that make a shit load of money? I'm guessing that most of the people in this forum have never seen any of his movies.

^He's a black guy who makes wildly successful movies that aren't predicated around superheroes or Liam Neeson. To the average Internet white guy, that's the equivalent of not wetting the sponge.
