If my memory serves, the only film version which is close to the novella is the Price movie. Never cared much for the Heston flick. The Smith film isn't too bad, though it kind of destabilizes at the end. It's amazing the mileage they've gotten out of this thing over the years.

I'm in the middle of rereading this right now with friends and I love it. I think this would be such a good movie if it was a straight-up adaptation. Could really work. It would be so cool for Hollywood to make a film really, really close to the material. Jackie Brown does this, to me.
