I loved the emotions at the end but agreed that they were too quick to end. The CGI was too loose though I respect the design.

I don't recall the specifics of the ending, I know Smith gets blown up, I think.... is it possible with what was shown on screen to reasonably sell the fact that Smith survived the blast? wasn't there an epilogue voice over that also stated that he died?

I liked everything in the 1st one except the uber-infected. If they had just been less super speed wallcrawlerz and more just infected humans who could speak like the 70s flick it would've been cooler. I thought Wil did a good job of showing the character going kinda crazy.

That said, id check out a new IL2.

I liked the first movie but I wish they'd quit trying to make us believe CGI is in the least bit real. CGI is CGI, looks like CGI, feels like CGI, either make an animated CGI movie or make it real, with good old-fashioned animatronics, puppet and practical effects (where is Stan Winston (or his protégés) when you really need him/them...) -kd5-

I don't agree with this. GOOD CGI can look frickin amazing.

I watched Dark of the Moon (yeah shitty movie and blah blah blah) last night, but I had forgotten just how awesome the CGI looked in that movie. Certain scenes absolutely blew me away as the CGI and the real set pieces co-existed seemlessly.

But yeah bad CGI can take you completely out of a movie in a split second.

I could be wrong but I assume that CGI costs more than animatronics and stuff, so if you don't have the budget to do really good CGI, you should just skip it completely.

I agree that good CGI looks amazing, but how often do you see good CGI? For the most part, the CGI I see looks contrived, artificial, and unconvincing. I will agree with you that good CGI looks amazing, I just wish they wouldn't use it for everyfrigginthing that needs to look monstrous, alien, or high tech these days. It just gets old when it's unconvincing. -kd5-

I just watched this on tv last night. Don't understand the need for the CGI. Could've slapped a mask or make up on Jason Statham and it would've worked x100 better.

Yup, your right. I read on Hollywood Reporter that Goldsman was hired to Produce.

Could a Mod change the title to: Prod: Akiva Goldsman instead of Dir:?

Goldsman has directed before. He's directed 5 episodes of the FOX series Fringe.

It wouldn't have been a issue if they went with the alternate ending.

I'll disagree with you ... good CGI is not noticeable. It should seemlessly blend so you don't know it is there.

True, except that in most cases cgi is used to create something that's impossible like dinosaurs or huge talking robots. So cgi allows really cool looking things to be seen on screen and these cool looking things look awesome.

We should do a poll and whichever one gets the most votes is the correct answer. There can be only one.

Actually, in most cases today CGI is used for more realistic background stuff. Take, for instance, The Social Network. That movie has a shit-ton of CGI, even if you take out the twins.

Smith hasn't agreed to this yet until he reads the script... doubt this even happens. WB is desperate for another franchise since Nolan's Batman is ending.

Fincher did that also for Zodiac and Panic Room. When it's seamlessly done, that's when CGI is great.

Loved the book. Seems like they took everything good out of the screenplay and made itbjustvanother Zombie movie.

As many have said, the only way this could work with Smith is if the film is a prequel in which case it'll be decent because it'll be like the first half of I Am Legend.

I just heard Reese Witherspoon has signed on. There will be a slight tonal shift as the series is retitled I Am Legendary Blonde.

Re: I Am Legend Sequel (Dir: Akiva Goldsman, S: Will Smith?, 2014?)

Not sure how'd they pul off a sequel with Smith. Well, one way...

Smith grabs the grenade. Runs at the Alpha monster...BOOM! White fade to Smith still in the room, the grenade ending being just a thought on how to resolve the situation. Then they could just play out the alternate ending.

Problem is that the movie continued on a bit sans Smith.... Guess we'll see. Or not.

Someone should tell Hollywood that Richard Matheson wrote other books.
