Taking to the stage at Las Vegas' CinemaCon for this evening's Paramount Pictures presentation, director Michael Bay announced that Stanley Tucci has joined the cast of the upcoming Transformers 4. He'll appear opposite Mark Wahlberg, Jack Reynor and Nicola Peltz, as well as another mysterious young actor that Bay teased will be announced very shortly.
Although the plot of the June 27, 2014 release is still top secret, Bay teased to ComingSoon.net that it will involve a "Chase from Hell."

It's a shame this is essentially a reboot of the franchise (with a female lead being the only real change to formula). With Bay's military fetish, I would have preffered an action flick with Josh Duhamel and Mark Wahlberg in the NEST team fighting alongside the Autobots. No need for any young cast members.

Nice hearing that Stanley Tucci has been cast but that isn't necessarily a good thing. John Malkovich's role in the last movie was one of the movies biggest flaws. Malkovich sparring with Bumblebee was the biggest WTF? moment in the entire series.

Mark Wahlberg plays Nicola Peltz' dad. She plays the teenage girl with the racecar driver boyfriend. Apparently the idea is to re-introduce the series with Mark Wahlberg but then immediately phase him out in the sequel while leaving Nicola Peltz and the guy who plays the boyfriend as the leads.

^ It's a Michael Bay movie. When has sense ever come into the equation?

EXCLUSIVE: Forget the affable Frasier Crane; Kelsey Grammer is embracing his inner bad guy. After his Golden Globe turn as the ruthless politician in Boss, Grammer has just landed the key villain role in Michael Bay‘s next Transformers film, which also stars Mark Wahlberg and Stanley Tucci. I’m told that Grammer will play Harold Attinger, a counter intelligence guy. Now, Grammer has been in big films before–he played The Beast in X-Men: The Last Stand–but he moved to UTA a couple of months ago, hoping to get more feature opportunities and the agency certainly came through. He’s also managed by Brian Sher. The film begins production in July, from a script by Ehren Kruger. Lorenzo di Bonaventura, Ian Bryce, Tom DeSanto and Don Murphy are the producers.

But that's not the Bay strategy. It becomes less palatable and won't sell as many tickets. Bay's movies pile in as much as they can, to appeal to people. When someone is spending $300M (or whatever, after marketing), I can't blame them.

HONG KONG – Producers for the fourth installment of the Transformers franchise have unveiled the first of what was promised to be a slate of Chinese stars to be featured in the film.
A report on m1905.com -- a Chinese film-related portal operated by the state-owned China Movie Channel, one of the film's three co-producers -- quoted a statement from Paramount Pictures, Sid Ganis’ Jiaflix Enterprises and China Movie Channel as saying that Resident Evil: Retribution star Li Bingbing will board the production. She will soon be joined by other well-known actors as well as newcomers recruited from a talent-scouting competition.
With production slated to begin later in the year, the latest entry to Michael Bay’s blockbuster franchise is set for release on June 27, 2014.
With the involvement of financiers and actors from China as well as promises of having parts of the film set and shot in the country, the film is designed to qualify as a Sino-U.S. co-production – which allows the movie to circumvent the Chinese import quota and also take a bigger proportion of box office earnings in what is now the second-biggest source of box office revenue in the world.
Transformers: Dark of the Moon brought in $177.3 million in tickets sales in China when released in 2010,and currently stands as the second-highest-grossing foreign film to be screened in China – with Avatar ranking first – and fourth highest-grossing overall.

I love Li Bingbing but I'm tired of these Chinese co-productions.

JoBlo is reporting that a source of theirs has learned about several classic Transformers characters that are rumored to appear in the upcoming Transformers 4. Their source lists the Dinobots and fan favorite Grimlock as being set to appear, and they even report there will be a scene in the film where Optimus Prime and Bumblebee ride the Dinobots into battle. In addition, their source says the Autobot Hound and a former Decepticon described as a "samurai" will appear as newcomers. They also report that, in a move to replace the deceased Megatron, Galvatron will be making his big screen debut in the movie.
The site does acknowledge that these are all just rumors at this point, and we would like to point out that similar rumors regarding the Dinobots and others have surfaced for every Transformers sequel previously.

^ I hope that's true but, given Bay's disdain for the Dinobots, I'll believe it when I see it.
