Re: X-Men First Class II (2nd Class?) - Dir: Singer
I may have had some issues w/ First Class...pretty much all my issues go against the scenes w/ the kids and some minor dialogue elements w/ the adults but overall? I enjoyed it the most of all the X films. Mostly cuz Fassbender and McAvoy (put your fucking hand down!) rocked it well. Fuck. If it was just them two growing into that relationship? Fuck. Would have been so damn dramatic and powerful. I consider X2 the best one though, but FC was the most enjoyable for me.
I hope The Wolverine can give back some needed critical value to these films cuz I love the X-Men but goddamn was it a bitch to follow up X3 w/ Origins. 2 shit films in a row. FC stopped that. Let's hope this one is a more balanced one though. I fucking love Days of Future Past. It'd be bad if they fucked it up in a way that hurts that loved element of it.

I like the idea as well however I'd only agree with mostly ignoring X3 events. Wolverine isn't the best but I didn't think it was overly terrible. The CGI in it just looks really bad in most scenes. I still think First Class is the best of all the X-Men films personally. It's definitely the one that I've re-watched the most.

It's been ages since I've seen X3, but I totally forgot his part.Which is strange because Colossus was one of my favorite mutants back in my comic collecting days. So was Nightcrawler. I'd love to see Alan Cumming reprise his role. (I haven't gone through this whole thread, so it's probably old news, but apparently he'd like to come back, but isn't optimistic. We'd have probably heard something by now.)

And maybe the Prof. X that appeared in X-Men Origins: Wolverine was a psychic projection. Yeah, that's the ticket...

Back when X3 came out, the rumoured reason was that a studio exec insisted Nightcrawler and Beast were too similar because they were both blue and demanded one character be removed to avoid redundancy. It sounds completely idiotic and therefor likely something a studio exec would say.

Cool that they are gathering as many alums for this as possible. Is there a list of confirmed actors yet? This will definitely be one that boasts the most star power.

I can't help but wonder if this might end up just being little cameos at best or a bloated mess at worst. And I know they can't seem to make an X-men movie without at least a Wolverine cameo but I'm actually kinda hoping Jackman opts out of this one. Unless he'll just have a cameo like in FC. I just fear the temptation to make this yet another Wolverine & oh yeah, the X-Men are in this movie might be too strong for the execs at Fox, despite how well FC turned out.

Here's the scene I was referring to.

Supposedly the comatose patient was Professor X's twin brother that had been comatose since birth do to X having wiped out his mind during the development of his powers in utero. Neat concept, so I'm hoping they stick to it and shed more light on it.

^ Yeah, I remember that scene. That was indeed meant to be the idea behind it (that it was his twin's comatose body). It would be cool if they don't abandon it. Or they use it as a means for Prof. X to go nuts (like the movie version of Onslaught) and basically Kitty goes back in time to rectify the events of X3. Of course, one has to wonder how she'd end up in the FC timeline. Overshot her landing?

Agreed. Bring in the characters if you want, but re-cast them. Don't try to fucking mash Singer's movies and Vaughn's movie together to create a sequel. Also, don't address anything from X3 and just pretend that abortion never happened. Ugh. My interest in this is plummeting rapidly.

After Superman Returns and Valkyrie, I intended to avoid Singer's future films like the plague. Unfortunately I'm a Marvel fanboy, so I can't miss this one. I expect shit though.

I will say that while I love the dream cast assembly, this could lead to some underwritten characters as well as some rather convoluted storytelling. I discussed with someone else that the notion of alternate universes through which a character may pass is something that might work well in a comic book, but not so much in a movie.
Also, I hope Ellen Page's returning doesn't mean that Kitty will be traveling through time and making snarky comments along the way.

If they killed Logan like it happened in the comics...that'd easily up the expectations and quality of the story. Mostly cuz it has balls. Balls are good. Even in your mouth sometimes. And in your hands. Balls.

Singer consults James Cameron regarding how to effectively handle time travel:

I had a two-hour conversation with James Cameron about time travel, string theory, multiverses and all that. You have to create your rules and stick wtih them. That's why Terminator and Back To The Future work so well. And there are certain mechanisms in X-Men, certain powers, perceptions and characters, that make this possible.
