Re: X-Men First Class II (2nd Class?) - Dir: Vaughn
Oh boy, another bad X-men movie. The first movie was god-awful, the second movie was even worse, the third movie was actually a better movie in a lot of ways than the other two despite everyone hating it for all the wrong reasons but it was still really bad, Origins was just fucking terrible, and First Class, again, was a horrible movie. I can't believe anyone could like the X-men film series at all; the Charlies Angels movies are better. Hell, BATMAN AND ROBIN was better.
Now, that's what you can call a threadcrap

Superboy....i disagree with everything you said. X-men: First Class was easily the best of the series. The first movie was ok, the second much better, the third....pretty damn terrible. Origins.....now that sucked. I like the idea of First Class 2 as the first movie did so many things well. It had its flaws, but it was one of the best comic book movies. If you think that the Charlies Angels movies and Batman and Robin are better movies (or actually good in any way) then i know that in the future i can simply ignore whatever you write as you are obviously writing from inside an insane asylum.

Oh, don't get me started on how fucking terrible Superman Returns (Bryan Singer, again!) and Green Lantern were. They were bad movies from top to bottom - everything about them was bad: the cinematography, the casting, the camera work, the plot, the script, the dialogue, literally EVERYTHING about them fucking sucked.

I just don't see it. It was good, but definitely fell short of great. First mistake is the mis-used title of the film. The "first class" in the film sucked and didn't do shit. It was a Magneto/Prof. X origin story. Second, while Fassbender & McAvoy were stellar choices, casting choices for the smaller roles were not so hot. January Jones looked good, but couldn't act her way out of a paper bag. Lastly, for a comic movie there sure wasn't much action.
I agree with your assessment of 1, 2 & 3 though. Good, Great, Terrible. Although, that's probably the general consensus. Lastly, the much maligned Wolverine. It definitely has flaws, but it was just a damn fun movie.
All that being said, there is room for improvement in "second class."

Do we really need to rehash reviews for First Class when it just came out half a year ago?
Complaints about the actual X-Men team in that movie were pretty widespread.

I'm game, but I agree with others that they should've waited on the whole "Magneto evil/Dr. X crippled" thing. I'll be curious to see what direction the story goes.

I wonder how much of the Magneto evil and X cripple had to do with them not knowing there would be a sequel to this?
I really enjoyed First Class, like most I'm hoping for more X-Men action outside of Magneto and Prof. X. But I'm most excited to see how their friendship progresses.

Well i am not a huge fan of the title "First Class", however i do seem to recall that they were going to produce an X-Men Origins: Magneto movie and that was scuppered in place of this and a mish-mash of that concept and an origin of the X-men was put together. Usually when this kind of thing happens it ends in a right royal mess, however i think it worked out pretty good. I agree that one of the flaws was the actual X-men in the movie. Darwin was there simply to be killed off, Angel was just a stupid character to have in and Beast just looked awful. As much as i hated Last Stand at least Beast looked pretty good there. I still wish Emma Frost had been played by Alice Eve. She is hot and can actually act. January Jones was the big misstep for me. She is godawful and is not even attractive. At least there is potential for better characters to be brought in for a sequel and i would prefer it if they kept away from the characters in the other movies to keep it fresh. And finally, Wolverine in the movie was only in it for a few moments, but this is the kind of Wolverine i want to see in his own movie. Alas we shall never see the R rated Wolverine movie we all want.

January Jones is an aggressively bad actress. It's like she's baiting the audience with how bad she is.

Yeah and people say her stilted acting helps her character on Mad Men, but I'm like...no it really doesn't, she just sucks. Even the daughter acts circles around her. Hell so does Glenn, and he's only on the show because he's Weiner's son. Ashton Kutcher and her must have been one hell of a couple, I wonder if they ever took acting classes together. In fact the instructor probably could have made some money if he charged people to watch and billed it as a comedy show.

speaking about the daughter from MM. Have you heard her in the commentary? Damn. That little girl is a pro actor or something cuz she really know her character inside and out.
