Yeah, just did, but I hadn't seen your post yet when I wrote mine. Odd coincidence.

OK....I need some help on this one.

There are many great "gunfights" on film (many of which have already been listed in this thread), but how about the most unusual?

Here's where I need help......
The movie I'm thinking of is in B&W. I thought it stared Robert Ryan (but I can't find it under his credits in the IMDb).

The last scene is one in which the star (who was once a harpooner on a whale ship) faces off against a gunman with a harpoon. I should know this movie and even have it in my VHS collection, but can't remember the name for the life of me

BTW: It's been on TCM recently (maybe even twice).

Another vote for the bank heist sequence gone horribly wrong in Heat. Chaos spills into the streets...

I hate to start a new thread to get an answer to my question (related to the topic of this thread). Therefore, as a reminder I ask once again.....Does anyone have the answer? What movie am I thinking of?

Thanks

Hi Vampyr, nice to hear from you again!

I think this is what you are looking for - Terror in a Texas Town (1958) with Sterling Hayden; it was on TCM earlier this month.

Following is the IMDb.com link:

1. Heat (this one just captures a real sense of tension for me, much more realistic and easy to get involved in then Woo's.)
2. Warehouse scene in Hard-Boiled
3. Better Tommorrow 2 (The mansion scene is just crazy, I have never seen anything like that before, way to much violence )
4. Desperado (Bar scene)

I knew I could count on you flixtime

That most certainly is the one I was thinking of. Besides being a good movie, that last "gunfight" must be the most unusual ever shot. You don't see a guman taken down by a harpoon too often

Didn't James Bond take someone out with a harpoon?

I vote for High Noon. You expect the sheriff to stand tall and meet these guys in the town square, face to face, like all those other old westerns. He hides behind stuff.

I just thought of another one I have not seen mentioned yet that would be hard to beat . Bruce Willis-Last Man Standing!! That movie is nothing but gunfights all the way through it and some are pretty intense!!

This all depends on your definition of the term "Gunfight". A lot of what's been mentioned here is more what I'd call a "Firefight", some kind of combat. The term "Gunfight", to me, means two guys, standing in the street, settling it w/ pistols. By that definition, nothing, and I mean nothing, tops Bronson and Fonda's climactic duel in Once Upon A Time in The West. We finally get to find out what's been eating Bronson and why he wants revenge. One of the coolest, most chill-inducing scenes in cinema history.

All of the titles listed above are great shoot-em-ups, but if we are including war flicks, Band of Brothers 'Bastogne' episode wins hands down. Especially when it's turned up loud...

2nd place is Black Hawk Down for realism.

If war flicks are not included, I'd have to go with Heat opening scene. WOW!
