Re: American Psycho remake?
Being such a big fan of the book, I was excited when I heard that someone was taking another crack at it. Now, after hearing that they're moving the story to present day, my enthusiasm has dropped immensely.

I would not be opposed to this if it were a series. I actually think it could be a good TV series. But... a remake of the movie? The movie was fine thanks.

If its not set in the 80s I wouldn't even call it a remake, I would say its inspired by the book.

I haven't read the book. I've heard that the movie was pretty tame compared to the book and actually toned down the violence and really sadistic sex stuff. Other than that how closely did the movie follow the book? If it was pretty close to begin with, that's just another reason not to remake it. If it really strayed from the book then maybe a another movie that stayed truer to the book would be alright. Then again, if right off the bat it's been moved to present time it probably won't be close to the book at all.

Besides if its in present day how would you represent the excess of today. Pat Batmen would be considered one of the wealth 1%, and everyone else around him would act like they have to apologize for having success they have earned.

I'm sure that you could make a successful remake and update the story but wouldn't all that effort better be made for a brand new story?
When I first saw the film I wasn't really paying attention to it and didn't notice it was supposed to take place in the 80s until the Reagan reference. After reading the book, I think the book is way better. It illustrates his madness much better, like when
But the Harron did a pretty good jobw with the film adaptation. They manged to find a way to keep the music monologues in.

Agreed that the way the writers used the music chapters from the book was pretty genius.
Also, I'm still in shock that Bale had only just turned 25 years old when he did that film. He's amazing, IMO.

That makes sense. The book has alot more scenes, like when he goes to the video store, or the gym that could have helped make the film feel more like a period piece.
As much as I liked the movie, it felt sparse, even before reading the book. I don't know if that was a stylistic choice on the director's part to better convey the emptiness of Bateman's world to the audience, or if just happened to feel that way.

He's white, male, and rich. What is there to reinvent for the modern audience when it comes to villains?

If he's a villain he'll likely work for a Blackrock type company snatching up single family homes causing the housing crisis.

Since this will be in Modern Day New York. Patrick Bateman's high power investment job puts him in the elitist corporate donor class. He'll still be an insane narcissist obsessed with designer clothes and his appearance. He'll be in a constant battle of one upsmanship with his coworkers as he thinks he'll be better than everyone else by becoming a vegan to reduce his carbon footprint.🤣

They can finally get Leo DiCaprio to play that role.
BTW I never watched the sequel and Mila Kunis was lead so you know it was going to suck.

Re: American Psycho remake?
Let's see some really brave writer faithfully include all the book's sadistic torture/sex/murder scenes in graphic detail. Starved rat, acid and Habitrail tube? Check. Nail gun to the face (lots of nails!)? Check.

I can't believe they haven't announced that the character is going to be changed to female yet. Patricia Bateman.

They kinda already tried that with the sequel, American Psycho II: All American Girl. Mila Kunis plays a girl who killed Patrick Bateman when she was 12. Then she grows up to be a serial killer.

American Psycho if it was made in 2023. Seems pretty accurate to me. 🤣

Hand over screenwriting duties to whomever wrote the script for that video.

Luca Guadagnino is in final negotiations for a new interpretation of the book “American Psycho” by Bret Easton Ellis for Lionsgate.
The film, which features a script by Scott Z. Burns, will not be a remake of the 2000 film, but a new adaptation of Ellis’s novel.
