American Psycho remake?
From Collider:
Lionsgate has hired Noble Jones to write and direct a new adaptation of Bret Easton Ellis‘ American Psycho. Jones is a protégé of David Fincher having worked as the second unit director on The Social Network. According to Deadline, Jones pitched the project to Lionsgate earlier this year and turned in a script about a month ago. Variety adds that the project has not been greenlit yet, but Deadline says that the new version will have a lower budget than the 2000 adaptation starring Christian Bale. More importantly, the remake will bring yuppie serial killer Patrick Bateman into present-day New York whereas writer-director Mary Harron kept the late 1980s setting of Ellis’ novel.

Obligatory comment on how remakes often suck.

I felt the timeframe actually helped the film. I bet it goes straight horror and misses the whole dark humor aspect of the original.....I'll pass.

Re: American Psycho remake?
The first American Psycho had a budget of $7 million. Pretty low budget already. Not saying that a lower budget would necessarily be bad, but what's the point of saying that it'll have a lower budget than the first one which already had a low budget?
American Psycho isn't a masterpiece or anything but I can't imagine how a remake could ever improve on the original and moving it to present time doesn't help at all.

Re: American Psycho remake?
The whole point of the original story, of the original movie, was that is was a commentary on 80's excess! How can you remake a story and take out the main fucking aspect of that story?

Also, he's no longer a sex-addicted psycho, he's a gambling-addicted narcoleptic. The screenplay opens with him sitting at a slot machine, and ends two hours later with Bateman still sitting in front of the same machine, sleeping.

Re: American Psycho remake?
I was thinking the same thing.
Patrick Bateman: Did you know that Katy Perry's third CD, called simply Teenage Dream had 5 number one singles on it? Did you know that, Christie?
Elizabeth: [laughing] You actually listen to Katy Perry? You own a Katy Perry MP3 download? More than one?
Patrick Bateman: It's hard to choose a favorite among so many great tracks, but "California Gurls" is one of the best, most powerful songs ever written about self-preservation, dignity. Its universal message crosses all boundaries and instills one with the hope that it's not too late to better ourselves. Since, Elizabeth, it's impossible in this world we live in to empathize with others, we can always empathize with ourselves. It's an important message, crucial really. And it's beautifully stated on the album.

American Psycho is really love it or hate it and I absolutely loved it. The novel is excellent as well. Leave well enough alone, people. Absurd idea.

Since the original is a period piece, it holds up very well. It's also shot in a way that doesn't date it at all. I don't see the point in remaking this.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have to return some video tapes.

The 2000 film is one of the best films of the 00's, imo. There is no reason for a remake at all.
Now if you'll excuse me, I have a lunch date with Cliff Huxtable.
