I'm still seeing this.

No matter how bad it is. Charlize Theron is fucking gorgeous.

A few reviews have turned up on Rotten Tomatoes. 83% right now.

I've only seen her in two movies, when she played that little boy in Panic Room and as a stripper in Welcome to the Rileys (more notable since it was directed by Ridley Scott's clone.. er son.) She wasn't noticeably bad in either one

I've noticed that she tends to do better in lower budget movies as well. I am kind of torn on this one. The visuals in this look astounding, but the acting looks quite subpar and I cannot see myself paying money to see a Kristen Stewart driven movie.

Pretty evenly split reviews (54% currently on rottentomatoes), Roger Ebert gave it a 3.5 out of 4 rating ("Snow White and the Huntsman" reinvents the legendary story in a film of astonishing beauty and imagination.).

When in doubt, I usually go with Ebert so this is a great sign. He also compares the movie to Gormenghast (The best fantasy series ever made) so that seals it.

It looks pretty good, and Charlize Theron is beautiful beyond reason.

Before Disneyfication, most fairy tales were brutally violent and scary. I'd like to see more like this.

Re: Snow White & The Huntsman (2012, K. Stewart, Theron, Hemsworth, McShane)

Yeah, I'd like the original Cinderella as a short film, just for the gore factor (the evil step sisters cutting off their toes to fit the slipper, birds plucking out their eyes, etc; )

Edit - both are very short reads -
Original Snow White - http://www.pitt.edu/~dash/grimm053.html
Summarized it comes down to
Spoiler:
(Evil Queen) - Then they put a pair of iron shoes into burning coals. They were brought forth with tongs and placed before her. She was forced to step into the red-hot shoes and dance until she fell down dead.
the rest of the story is the same, and the moral is, if you're beautiful you can be a dumb bitch.

Original Cinderella story - http://www.pitt.edu/~dash/grimm021.html

I might see this if I feel like it. But not really excited to see it.

I love Roger Ebert and read his reviews all of the time. He does tend to enjoy creatively visceral movies (I'm remembering how he gushed over The Cell).

It was #6 on his best of 2000 list... can't say he just goes with the crowd on these things.

And as a former model she knows how to pose unlike Kristen Stewart.

Theron poses, Stewart looks frumpy.

Theron on Colbert. Most of the conversation derives from Colbert being #69 on Maxim's hot 100, Theron is #16. Earlier in the episode he kept flashing photos from Monster.

Well you could always just re-watch one of the many movies in which she's also fucking gorgeous and even gets naked

No need to suffer through another Show White movie for that.

I would, but Orndorf hates it so that means that the movie's at least decent, if not excellent.

Plus the visual style reminds me of Pan's Labyrinth.

I don't know why but I find Theron sexier now than say 10 years ago. Must be bathing in virgins blood.

It's not just Orndorf. Tyler Foster, Jamie S. Rich, and Jason Bailey were none too kind to it either.

Good christ, how has this man managed to avoid the booby hatch for so long? His metamorphosis into a simpleton is something to behold.

Re: Snow White & The Huntsman (2012, K. Stewart, Theron, Hemsworth, McShane)

I saw this earlier tonight at a screening with a friend of mine who wanted to see it. I found it really rather dull, which surprised me. I wasn't invested in any of the characters and the action scenes were run of the mill. The trailers made this look way more actiony than it is, which would be fine, if the story was interesting.

Charlize Theron really hams it up in some scenes, which was fun. The effects were good too. Stewart doesn't suit up and fight until the last act, so it wasn't a big deal. Thought she did a good job, as did Hemsworth. The dwarves added some life into the movie too, but it wasn't enough.

I really thought the movie was longer than it was, and at a certain point I was just waiting for it to end.

What an ignorant statement. All one has to do is follow the man's blog to know he's not a simpleton.

As stated above, Ebert has always valued movies with innovative special effects. He even says as much in his review, though I doubt you bothered to actually read it.

Metamorphosis? He's sort of always been this way, he loves visually striking movies.

Ebert's a simpleton because he appreciates unique visuals/style?
Well, color me stupid!

Saw it. Reminded me a lot of Legend. Good visuals and production values, but overall very "meh." Theron seemed like she was doing an intentionally bad job, and Stewart had no business faking an English accent if she was going go in and out with it.

This sounds like the vibe I got from reading the 3 reviews on DVDTalk.

Might catch this over the weekend.
