I just think there are certain instances where something is legitmately good and it isn't soley because of nostalgia, but there are definitely more times to me where people let their love of something overshadow any future sequel or remake/reboot. I also don't think that nostalgia necessarily only applies to something that a person loved as a child.
Star Wars is a great case where the Original Trilogy is so much better on so many levels than the Prequel Trilogy. Its not good because of nostalgia those films were just damn well made and the Prequel Trilogy films really weren't as much.
I just think that in this particular case it wasn't that big of a gap in quality between the two films. Like I said, I don't think Dumb and Dumber To was perfect but I also think that for a sequel done twenty years after the original it was pretty damn good really. A lot better than I expected it to be.

I was pretty let down by this. I agree with most about a lot of the jokes falling flat. It had the same vibe I got from Kingdom of the Crystal Skull where it felt like a cover band where all the main people involved were trying to impersonate an Indiana Jones movie. Same could be said on all accounts with Dumb & Dumber To. It just didn't gel. It felt like an imitation of the first film instead of a continuation. I will say though, it still managed to be better than the prequel.

I saw it last night, and felt like they made the same movie twice, some laughs were there, but it should have been made 10 to 15 years ago.

I watched this last week and really hated it. Did not laugh once. Amazing since i loved the first movie. After the abomination which was Anchor Man 2 and now this, i hope that they don't do sequels to Zoolander or Bad Santa. They never work. Just happy we have the first movies.

I doubt Bad Santa would ever have a sequel that was true to the original. Unless the Coen brothers direct it themselves.
I don't get the hate for Anchorman 2, it wasn't great and goes off the rails at the 80 minute mark, but it's mostly pretty solid.
Dumb and Dumber To was more watchable than I was expecting, but there was certainly something a bit... desperate to it.

They were producers on the movie, and rumor had it they're the ones that cut the theatrical release of the movie after a big disagreement with Weinstein. The Director's Cut of the movie has different timing.
"They knew the Weinsteins get really heavily involved in editing and they didn't want to be involved in that. At one point the Weinsteins asked them to watch a cut that the Weinsteins had done that made it much more mainstream. They had added a bunch of scenes, some of which I refused to film, and they cut them in and the Coen brothers watched it. They said, "Well, you tried to make this film into 'American Pie.' It's a piece of shit now." That was their response and they got into a heated argument with the Weinsteins that ended with everyone yelling "Fuck you" at each other. They didn't want any part of it after that so I was stuck with it. It got pretty nasty."

Despite that, there were other reports that they were the ones that ultimately put the theatrical release together. I'm not sure if that's true or not, and finding that shit is a pain in the ass.
