A friend and I were going to see this yesterday but he couldnt make it. Suddenly I lost the desire to see it, despite being a fan of the series. Sounds like I am not missing much.

That doesn't suprise me. Like I said, this is a one-act film. I thought we were moving into the second (or maybe third) act (I guess the "suburbia" stuff could be considered an act). And then the movie just ends. The trailers indicate a Washington DC setting. That doesn't happen.

I'm up for watching a DC-based Resident Evil finale. But put SOMETHING in it. This movie just had a bunch of baddies getting shot up. I don't recall if there were any new monsters or not. I don't think there were. It's all just the same stuff (dude with the big meat cleaver/axe, the flower-looking things coming out of peoples mouths, etc.). I guess that the "dead soviets army" was new.

Well this was as terrible as I expected it to be. I don't know why I keep subjecting myself to these films...I do actually (I'm a diehard fan of the game franchise). I keep hoping one day they'll make a good Resident Evil. That won't happen as long as Paul WS Anderson is attached to the franchise. This guy is such a hack!

Also it was painfully obvious that Leon Kennedy and Ada Wong had their voices dubbed. Terrible syncing. The actor who plays Wesker is horribly miscast. The guy just sucks.

There were some decent action scenes and Jill and Ada looked hot...other than that I have nothing positive to say.

I personally like the series. It's a guilty pleasure like the Underworld franchise.

Here's one issue I had. Afterlife ended on a cliffhanger with a major attack happening on the ship with Alice, Claire and Chris standing right next to each other. Retribution picks up with the attack. Claire and Chris are nowhere to be found. They were only mentioned later as a afterthought. I thought it was strange that they didn't bring back those characters, but brought back Luther.

terrible terrible movie. the franchise has devolved into listless acting and dull and drab action set pieces. it wasn't even bad in a good way. just plain bad.

I tried watching it last month but after seeing Anderson shamelessly rip off the Dead Island trailer, X-Men, and Dawn of the Dead 04 in a matter of twenty minutes, I shut it down and have yet to return.

I plan on finishing it soon.

I like these movies but this one was a let down. It's basically a re-hash of the escape-from-the-facility that was the first movie. Just bigger. Some cool action scenes, but from the trailers I expected to visit these real world places and not a lab.... I'll still grab it for the collection.

Watched it last night. More of the same, but I do love these movies. They definitely need to wrap it up with #6. Just go gonzo in Washington and be done.

I'm reviewing this right now. Awful. Paul WS Anderson was never a great filmmaker, but he used to be a fun one. This movie just felt like everyone was going through the motions.

The Blu-ray is spectacular! DEMO in every sense of the word. The film itself is not as good as the last one, but then again, these films were never meant to be more than what they are. Hell, my least favorite installment is the first film and I'm one of the few who actually enjoys part 2. Go figure.

I do love the tomandandy music score, too.

I do agree with the Blu-ray quality. Top marks for sound and picture, and a decent set of special features as well.

As someone who has liked the previous movies to varying degrees, this one was definitely the worst and probably as disappointing as this type of movie could be. The recap was a bit long, and I thought the suburbia sequence in the beginning went on for too long as well. Bringing back Michelle Rodriguez and Oded Fehr was somewhat of a waste, as they didn't do anything particularly interesting and the movie seemed to only rely on people being impressed that they were there.

I didn't really understand the point of Wesker flipping sides like that randomly after the last 2 movies, and Jill's defeat was awfully predictable and too easy. And yeah, given how Claire was influenced before in the last movie her recovery was kind of dumb. Leon and Ada weren't really established very well either, which was a bummer. They could have used an extra 10-15 minutes and made them actually interesting, especially since I couldn't care less about Luther.

This movie was a waste of fucking time.

Just seventy minutes of explosions and gun fights, ten minutes of story, and ten minutes of really bad exposition.

Do people seriously give a fuck about any of these characters?

And how can you fear monsters that have no personality? They're just moving animated avatars!

Seriously what is the appeal? What is the lure for these movies? Can anyone tell me?

There could have been better fodder I'd hope than an RE movie, especially since you kind of went in knowing what you'd get.

If you stick your hand in a pile of shit, you come out with a hand full of shit. You can't expect to pull out a piece of gold.

Have you watched all the movies in the series? Seems bizarre to keep watching them if you dislike them. Seems like there would be better things to do or better movies to watch.

Personally, I found some of the zombie action fun in the previous movies, and they took a fun turn with the story in the 3rd movie with all the Alice clones. I've been genuinely interested in what they were doing, but Retribution was pretty poor.

I saw the first movie in theaters when I was convinced it'd be an excellent series. I saw the second one on DVD when I hoped for a better follow-up, I saw the third one out or morbid curiosity. Suffice it to say my rationalizing for watching these movies lessens, but for this and the last entry I needed fodder for my year end list. I never go in to an Anderson movie met with a masterpiece.

Well. This movie was much worse than the others. Much much worse. I quite like the other movies, and was offended that this one was such a turd. Blah blah blah - I already wrote about it in my other posts.

And that final scene was so derivative of Peter Jackson.

"Pull back and show soldiers, pull back more and show a base, pull back more and show a castle! pull back more and show a fortress, pull back more and show legions of zombies and flying monsters, pull back more and see an eternal war ensuing. It'll be genius!"

Fuck off Anderson.
