Pick the awards for the first ten months of the year!

The old adage is that the Oscars and their ilk never celebrate the best movie work of the year, they celebrate he best of November and December.

No, it's not a fair assessment (before someone yells "SILENCE OF THE LAMBS" like they're the first person to remember the film), but it's inarguable that the majority of awards go to "Awards Season" releases. Studios intentionally keep prestige pics o the end of the year to maximize their award possibilities. As a result many fine pieces of work are unfairly left out of the conversation simply because they were released too early, and studios don't throw their campaign weight behind them.

So, posit that November and December releases don't exist. If the Oscars could only nominate performances and films from the first ten months of the year, who deserves to be nominated for Best Actor, Actress, Film and whatnot?

Did Joss Whedon or Chris Nolan direct anything this year? If so, the awards should go to those.

Tree of Life will almost definitely get a cinematography nom, but if it gets a best picture nod I'll eat my hat. It wasn't even in my top ten.

I strongly doubt it will get a Best Picture nomination.

I think it will get nominated for Best Pic due to the absolute love for it from the people that liked it. It will get enough #1 or 2 votes from those people to get it on the ballot.

I doubt there are enough Academy voters who fall into that category. I'd be very surprised if it got nominated.

Seeing as how there is 10 nominees now, unless that changed I imagine it probably will be nominated.

It did change. It's actually a solid 5 plus how many ever they decide are worthy up to 10. Could be 6, 7, 8, 9 or 10... or just 5. It's very, very stupid.

Re: Pick the awards for the first ten months of the year!

Drive was an awesome movie, but it's got no chance to even get nominated for Best Picture. Don't let your biases influence your picks.

The Oscars are predictable, J Edgar and War Horse (with War Horse the favorite) will be best picture nominees.

Nope. I picked what I felt deserved to win not what I think the Academy will pick.

Re: Pick the awards for the first ten months of the year!

Best Picture
Drive

Best Director
Nicolas Winding Refn for Drive

Best Actor
Joseph Gordon-Levitt for 50/50

Best Actress
Mia Wasikowska for Jane Eyre

Best Supporting Actor
Albert Brooks for Drive

Best Supporting Actress
Melissa McCarthy for Bridesmaids

Best Original Screenplay
Will Reiser for 50/50

Best Adapted Screenplay
Hossein Amini for Drive

I'd argue between Drive or The Tree of Life for Best Cinematography. The Tree of Life was mesmerizing, but Drive made me feel like I was right back in Los Angeles.

I know the point of your thread, I'm just saying who I think will be the frontrunners for the Best Picture Oscar in general.

Kevin James for Zookeeper.

He doesn't really deserve it, but it will be a make-up award for getting robbed for Paul Blart: Mall Cop
