Re: Pick the awards for the first ten months of the year!
I tend to think 'Tree of Life', 'Midnight in Paris', and 'Drive' will get nominations for Best Picture. 10 Nominations remember.
I think all 3 could get noms, especially if you consider what else will be in the running.
I put an * next to my 10 noms with a # for my best picture so far.
The film I'm looking forward to the most is 'The Artist'. Looks beautiful.
Midnight in Paris*
Drive*
Tree Of Life#
Ides of March*
J Edger*
Melancholia
The Descendents*
A Dangerous Method*
Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy
Carnage
Young Adult
The Iron Lady*
Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close*
War Horse
Hugo
The Artist*
Of course depending on how some of these fare will be of issue and you never know about a Wild Card!

Besides maybe some Directors,Documentary people and Film Critics which are all tiny in numbers branches of the Academy who is gonna be supporting Tree Of Life?
The Acting Branch who make up 1/4 of Oscar voters won't be supporting it since there are no actory baity roles in the film. The Producer and PR people who have Oscar votes won't support an art house film with bad box office. The tech people and old fogies prefer audience pleasing movies so ditto to them also.

It may be too early for a proper Oscars speculation thread, so I decided to post this here. 6 critics were asked to predict the Oscar nominations. They each picked 10, but of course there may not actually be that many.

I found it interesting that Dave Karger predicted that David Fincher would be nominated for Best Director, but that TGWTDT wouldn't get a Best Picture nomination. I know that a Directing nomination didn't always mean an automatic BP nomination, but that was when there were only 5 BP nominees. Now that there are up to 10, it seems absurd.

Maybe it's just me, but this year has been pretty weak so far, especially when compared to the last couple years. Of the 20 or so films I've seen so far, I've only really liked two of them...those being the ones in my sig. Hopefully the end of the year sees an increase in quality...
