God Bless America (Goldthwait, 2012) - Man and 16-year old girl on crime spree

Is it just me or is it awesome Bill isn't the only talented Murray. I'm glad Joel is getting his shot. It'd be cool if Brian Doyle had a bit of a career resurgence.

Pretty good (I just got done watching it).
It could have used more of the scathing social commentary and less padding (like all the slo-mo scenes). But, what social commentary there is *is* worthwhile (especially the slams at Diablo Cody--Bobcat was pretty much voicing my feelings on what a piece of shit "Juno" was.)
And the ending? Let's just say, you're going to have a hard time not thinking of "Network".

For MST3K fans: there's a brief cameo by Frank Conniff (TV's Frank) when the main character is flipping through the channels. He's playing a "Glenn Beck-Type".

Saw this tonight, and I enjoyed it overall. Agreed with alot of the commentary, thought it was funny. I was alittle annoyed by Roxy though. I thought it was especially funny when Frank called her Juno, because her dialogue seemed straight from a Diablo Cody script.
Also found it curious that there wasn't an FBI manhunt for them. The camera caught their faces after the movie theater killings. No one seemed to recognize them even though they were national news. I'm nitpicking, aren't I.
Anyway worth checking out.

I really had my heart set on watching this the other night but I forgot how nuts the cost for VOD can be. Red State was the only other movie that tempted me to see a movie that way. A 10.00 rental is just crazy. I want to see this but I'd rather pay 20.00 and have a copy in my hand and on my shelf.

Caught this last night on HDNET Movies and it didn't do it for me. The acting, direction, script, etc were fine but I felt like I'd seen it all before in movies like Heathers and Falling Down. Didn't feel very fresh or original to me.

Good, not great. I was expecting more of an incisive satire on how American pop culture junk grotesquely warps social attidues and mores and what-not, and while there was a little of that, it also felt a bit rambling and at times listless. It came together in the end pretty well, but it could have been sharper and tighter.

Goldthwait's heart was in the right place.

I wanted to like this one more because I loved World's Greatest Dad. I was with Joel Murray at first but then it just kind of started to state the same points over and over. It doesn't build enough and I thought the targets were a little outdated. It's not like hating American Idol is a fresh and radical new idea. The girl seemed to sometimes embody what Joel was preaching that he disliked, that there was this escalating culture of hate and entitlement. She would constantly call out groups of people that she hated and thought she was above. She had none of the tiredness with hate that Joel did. Maybe he should have shot her, I don't know. I thought it was okay, al ittle less than good but not bad.
P.S.-Did like the little stop off at the movies. Although, Bobcat forgot to add a texter in the movie theater.

I liked this one. Not as good as World's Greatest Dad, but still enjoyable. You could really feel Bobcat's stand-up side come out in Frank's speeches. I could totally imagine someone saying those things on stage. Definitely worth a watch, and Bobcat's second best film to date.

Watched it earlier tonight (dvr from hdnet movies) i personally loved it (being a liberal helps ) i also loved the jabs at Juno, and even Glee ("it fucking ruined rocky horror for everyone").
Also, if the american idol like judge looked and kinda sounded like Sophia Vergera, it was her sister in the part.
there's a great usage of "School's out (For the summer) by Alice Cooper as well

Though it's not perfect, I loved this movie. Murray was fantastic, and Tara Lynne Barr as Roxy was absolutely amazing. It certainly helped that the movie really spoke to my personal politics, and I agreed with it almost 100% on all of the pop culture touchstones that they railed against. An excellent addition to Bobcat's filmography.

Saw the thread title and thought, "No way could it be that Goldthwait". I'll have to check his films out. Loading Netflix now....

And that ending was perfect. Anything less would have been a cop out.
Between this and WGD, I can't wait to see what Bobcat will produce next. I'd never have guessed he'd become one of my favorite directors to watch.
