Another memorable stupid audience story, when I saw the movie "Grand Canyon"- most of the movie took place near Los Angeles, but a few times characters would mention really wanting to go see the Grand Canyon which explains the title of the movie. Well, at the end of the movie, but because credits happened to be rolling over the footage a lot of people started getting up and leaving anyway. If they hadn't rolled the credits til after that footage was done, they probably would've stayed seated at least til then.

Apparently there's not a difference for credits at the beginning and credits after the "movie"/story is done.

^ Yup, a bunch of people sitting and watching a scrolling list of 2nd Unit Caterers and Panavision certification numbers sure are getting their shekels worth while everyone else is so getting ripped off!

There were outtakes at the end of BEING THERE (1979) and SMOKEY AND THE BANDIT II (1980).

As for showing respect ... Harlan Ellison, in his column, An Edge in My Voice, wrote of an incident at the Writer's Guild Theater where people were walking out during the end credits of a movie. Ellison was at this screening and reproved the audience; apparently, at the Guild's theater, leaving during the credits is a faux pas. Or was. The column was from at least 25 years ago; the Guild's social mores may have changed.

I rarely go to the movies anymore. When viewing a movie for the first time on video, I'll watch the entire end credits. Although, not so for network presentations, when the credits have been reformatted so promos can take up the majority of the screen.

I think scenes after the credits cheapen the movie. Just saying.

Couldn't resist bumping this thread to mention that for the first time that I can remember, we had 100% of the audience* sitting through the end credits!

I always stayed during The Naked Gun movies' credits.

What I don't understand is why some big budget movies save elaborate credits for the end of the flick, especially when most of the public get up and miss them anyway. I'd rather they'd stick them in the beginning and the get the flick started with a bang. I especially hate it when there are no credits at the start, not even the name of the film. It just never feels right.

That's a directorial decision. Spielberg has rarely had opening credits beyond the production company, his name ("A Steven Spielberg Film") and the title. Nolan is the same way. So was Kubrick.

Wife and I watch the credits to the very end:
1. Music can be good sometimes
2. Some of the "Credit Titles" are funny (Window cleaner, bottom of shoes cleaner...)
3. We laugh at some of the real names in the credits
4. My wife is a singer, so she likes the names of the songs and who sang them
5. Want my moneys worth
6. If it is a hot day outside, I want to stay inside the movie as long as possible (No AC in the house)
7. Give me an appreciation for how hard it is to make a movie
8. Like the creative design some credits have
9. Of coarse, outtakes or additional scenes like in the Marvel movies

A story goes that William Friedkin screened THE EXORCIST for composer Bernard Herrmann in the hope that he would score the movie. Herrmann turned down the assignment, saying: "Only one great movie had its credits at the end--CITIZEN KANE!"

I check RunPee to see if there's anything after the credits. If there isn't, I evacuate the building like first class passengers on the Titanic.

So if you're a dude, you most likely end up dead whenever you see a movie?
