Re: Ridley Scott Ready To Direct New Version Of 'Blade Runner'

instead of revisiting his films he should put all of the titles he made over the years in a bowl and randomly draw out 2 titles, then combine the stories into one FUBAR travesty!

Oh let's say...White Squall and Robin Hood! Now That's Entertainment!

Ooo, I'd be down for Thelma & Louise & GI Jane. Aw, yeah.

I don't want a true sequel to BR, I don't want to know exactly what happened to Deckard & Rachel. And you can't make it a prequel at Ford's age unless you do that creepy de-aging CGI to his face.

I'd rather see a sequel to "The Duellists"... with rubber bands and paper-clips as the weapons of choice.

Part of Blade Runners beauty was it's excellent analog old fashioned special effects. Any new film will use cgi to some extent and it just won't feel right.

Untitled Monopoly Project? I wonder what else they could call it. Citizen Pennybags?

Yep, I'm not sure how I feel about this either, but I'll definitely reserve judgement.

He's in decline I guess, and all that's left is to try and make a buck and stroke the over-sized ego fucking up your earlier works, like so many other hacks who lose their touch for whatever reason have done.

Eh, though they were analog, the effects on Blade Runner at the time were state-of-the-art, and the 2007 "Final Cut" used a bit of CGI here and there. I happen to think Scott is pretty good at meshing CG and in-camera effects.

For what it's worth, I believe Scott is trying to keep all the special effects of Prometheus in-camera, with CGI used only to extend the scope of the physical sets.

Blade Runner is in my top five films of all time. Needless to say I think this does not need to be made, and probably shouldn't be.

Re: Ridley Scott Ready To Direct New Version Of 'Blade Runner'

I'm someone who likes, but doesn't quite love Blade Runner, but I acknowledge that it's one of the most influential films of its time, is highly intelligent, and has quite possibly my all-time favorite lines of dialogue in any movie, ever. (And of course you know what those are: Roy Batty's final monologue).

If Scott were to film the P.K. Dick novel, and follow it more closely this time, I'd be interested. Other than that, I'll probably pass.

Re: Ridley Scott Ready To Direct New Version Of 'Blade Runner'

I like Scott and Blade Runner's a fine film, but I'm not sure about this, same for Prometheus. I probably will give both a chance.

I think most people found the movie to be boring, but a remake might be good in that it'd might make them give the original another look.

I hate to say it but I think it'd be successful (as in popular with the general audience) only if someone like Nolan did the remake - Inception did well, didn't it? DiCaprio as Deckard might work.

Re: Ridley Scott Ready To Direct New Version Of 'Blade Runner'

At this point, I don't know if Prometheus is actually part of the Alien franchise or not, but that franchise has been run into the ground and can use an infusion of creativity. Blade Runner, on the other hand, is not a franchise, is not something that has been degraded in the eyes of the public. If it's a movie that takes place in the same general world, but has no ties to the original other than a few visual cues, I'm fine with that. Any attempt to expand upon the story or characters of the original film will not work, imo.

Totally agree. Same world and workings? I'm ok. DON'T build on the story of Blade Runner though. It ended right where it needed to, doesn't need anything else...

DiCaprio as Deckard would be cool. Think of DiCaprio in this scene from the book: Deckard is put into the back of a squad car. He's taken to a precinct house that he's never heard of. Deckard's been a cop long enough that he knows most of the detectives in the city, so he's not too nervous. He just has to talk to someone and get it sorted out. He's put in the interrogation room. A police detective who he's never heard of him starts questioning him about the replicants he just shot, treating it like a murder investigation. The detective starts using the approach that Deckard is a replicant, but doesn't know it, and that's why he shot those people.

Of course, if Blade Runner 2 were made, it's main job would be to take everything left vague in the first movie and to nail it to the floor with explanations. And then give it a happy ending with a pretty bow tied on it.

The idea to redo this movie in any way should be lost, like tears in the rain.

Re: Ridley Scott Ready To Direct New Version Of 'Blade Runner'

There's a lot of room for interesting stories in that universe, but I fear the studio would want a direct tie to the original. If Ridley Scott has enough pull to make a movie that didn't go the easy route, it could be interesting. Maybe tell Holden's story?

Re: Ridley Scott Ready To Direct New Version Of 'Blade Runner'

It's depressing that there are so many classic science fiction novels that haven't been adapted to film yet, and they're making a sequel that doesn't need to be made.

Foundation, Stranger in a Strange Land, Childhood's End, Rendezvous with Rama, Neuromancer, Hyperion, The Stars My Destination... the list goes on and on.

Re: Ridley Scott Ready To Direct New Version Of 'Blade Runner'

Harrison Ford Circling Ridley Scott’s New ‘Blade Runner’!

It seems Ridley Scott has been in a mood to revisit his early work lately. He’s finishing up Prometheus, which revisits the universe he created in the first Alien film, and has signed on to make another Blade Runner film.

It was about a year ago Scott signed on for the new Blade Runner film. Little was (and still is) known about the direction the film will be taking, but one thing that was certain was Harrison Ford would not be returning. In fact, producer Andrew Kosove had this to say concerning Ford:

“In no way do I speak for Ridley Scott but if you’re asking me will this movie have anything to do with Harrison Ford, the answer is no. This is a total reinvention and in my mind that means doing everything fresh, including casting.”

Well, either Kosove spoke too soon, or after Scott became involved the script underwent some changes. Today Twitch Film brings breaking news that Ford is in early talks to appear in the new Blade Runner film.

What does this mean for the film? Is it a sequel, a prequel or a reboot? Will Ford’s role be a simple cameo, or is he back in the lead? At this point only the filmmakers know. Its always possible talks will disintegrate and Ford will not appear at all.

We’ll keep you posted as this develops.

There are some good remakes though right? Cronenberg's The Fly, and Carpenter's The Thing.

Why not Bladerunner?
