This made 13 million yesterday. It is a bomb. Duh. Where's your nostalgia now?
No, I haven't watched it yet.

I expected it to bomb- it's not an action film, it's hard sci-fi and very cerebral.

Female nudity (of replicants and holograms), a few silhouette shots of what is apparently a VR whorehouse. No sex scene - they kiss and cut to the next morning. Imo everything is pretty artfully done.

To me, Ridley and Ford should be immensely proud of being part of such a great followup. After watching it on Thursday, I figured it was setting up to be a huge hit. To me, this is prime, modern entertainment. I just don't know what people like I guess.

Watching The Final Cut now. So intoxicating. Good word to describe both. They are slow but stuff happens and still moves. Didn’t feel anxious at all with runtime of new...

But it's not cerebral. It actually has nothing to say maybe other than women are just objects and completely disposable.

I saw Empire in the theater, loved it, somehow watched Star Wars after it, counted down the days to ROTJ and sat through 2 hours of crap to get to 20 mins of bad-assery. So yes, Empire very much stood on it own

The projections gave it out for around a $50 million weekend, andni expect that. This movie will make its money back no sweat with international included. And yes, the original didnt do great at the box office when it was released.
In answer to someone else, the Final Cut is the definitive version, however i still like thr original Theatrical cut. I actually love the voice over. I know Ford didnt want to do it and so gave a horribly down reading, but that voice actually matched his character. A disillusioned and depressed guy. It actually worked really well. As for the happily ever after ending, well not so much...but it did use some great out take vista shots from The Shining.

Dystopian Box Office Future: Why ‘Blade Runner 2049’ Is Hitting Turbulence With $31M+ Opening

Here was a passionate attempt to revive a cult classic, be completely faithful to its original property, from its mind-blowing production design to its sophisticated plot, and now, kerplunk. Similar to the way that time was on the side of the original Blade Runner — it’s a groundbreaking piece of filmmaking that has far surpassed its initial commercial prospects (it bombed back in 1982, making close to $28M stateside) — perhaps history will also be kind to Blade Runner 2049. The jaw-dropping sequel is truly an awards season film, and should Warner Bros. rally behind Blade Runner 2049, perhaps more people will find it.

Hmmmm. I have not watched the final cut in years. I will have to revisit it. I seem to recall not thinking it an improvement. Other than making one scene very obvious.

I am another who likes the TC over the final cut. Call me crazy. Also, call whomever thought that this was going to be box office gold crazy as well. not sure why that idea even crossed minds.

Final Cut is the only version I ever watched. I remember it being a hot topic (the arguments are probably in an old thread) on this forum.

Well i went to see a screening of it this morning and it was a little to close to reality. About an hour into the movie there was a black out and the movie couldnt continue.

Re: Blade Runner 2049 (2017, D: Villeneuve) S: Ford, Gosling
The message of both films is that when faced with a synthesized human that is indistinguishable from a real human the word "real" begins to lose its meaning. And in the face of this uncertainty everything is called into question and there is a general coursening of society where everyone and everything is disposable. No one treats anyone kindly, save for Roy Batty and a certain someone in the new film. It's not just women that are disposable in these films.

Saw it for a second time. Helped to explain some questions I had the first time 'round. I'm still not thrilled with
