Re: Actors whose careers have fallen low and fast
I felt her career was derailing when she was in Hancock. I didn't even know she was in the movie until I saw it. It's like she got no credit in the promotion. Aeon Flux didn't help her career, although I didn't think it was that bad. It was certainly light years ahead of Milla's Ultraviolet.
I'll never understand how Nic Cage gets so many roles. Like many of you, I can't stand him or the movies he's in.

I actually give Aeon Flux a little credit, it tried to do something a little different in terms of plot and wasn't a complete miss. Def better than Ultraviolet.
She's generally in less mainstream movies though not quite indie, though she is in some big upcoming movies (Prometheus, Snow White and the Huntsmen, and Mad Max)
The whole "TV is a step down" bit seems to have died off a bit ever since The Sopranos made it big. I think a big part of it has to do with the paychecks being much smaller for most big actors on a TV series vs. a movie.

Re: Actors whose careers have fallen low and fast
I could care less about Cruises personal life, I just don't think he can act. Don't get me wrong he's not horrible but for the superstar he became is just crazy. He never put forth a performance that really wowed me.
I never liked Whitaker either, but that's just my personal preference. I fully realize the dude can act but he just never had an appeal with me.

Heigl's got some haters. In a surprising new story, Katherine Heigl's deflating career and reputation in Hollywood are scrutinized as multiple film and TV insiders claim to the Hollywood Reporter that the A-list actress isn't exactly a joy to work with.
One source who worked with the star on the 2010 film Life As We Know It described "desperately difficult situations" with Heigl on set. "She can cost you time every single day of shooting," the source charged of Heigl, 34, who was paid $12 million for the film. "Wardrobe issues, not getting out of the trailer, questioning the script every single day."
(The film's director Greg Berlanti disagrees, telling THR: "I would work with her again in a heartbeat.")
Making matters worse, says the source, was her mother and manager Nancy Heigl, who has worked closely with her daughter since her days as a child model. "I have never experienced anything like Nancy Heigl," says the source. "It's about the mouth. 'F--- you. You are a f---ing liar.' Whatever you'd say, you were an idiot. The call would be, 'This is the worst craft service we've ever had! There's nothing to eat! This is the worst wardrobe!' You knew that every day, you were going to get slammed. The frustrating part is [Heigl] is incredibly talented and smart."
Life as We Know It producer Denise Di Novi tells THR those accusations are "way exaggerated," but acknowledges that both Katherine and her mom "are not shrinking violets. They're very straightforward and tell you what they think."
Another source tells THR that the pair made similarly outrageous requests for 2008's 27 Dresses, following Heigl's star-making turn in Knocked Up. "There were movie-star demands -- big rooms, the mother there, all the stuff . . . It was just a sense of entitlement. The biggest stars don't do that kind of thing."
As Heigl endeavors to rebuild her career following a slew of box office disappointments over the past several, one anonymous TV executive quoted in the story says that Heigl's infamy is so bad that she was nixed as a potential lead in a new pilot. "On many levels, she would have been perfect for the role, but all of us said, 'She's not worth it.' "

^ Sounds a lot like Thora Birch, whose asshole father/manager has kept her from getting work.

There are a lot mentioned that came to mind for me. How about Mike Myers. I never liked him or his movies...but for a while he seemed to be very popular. I think Travolta and Cage are prime examples though. Both do truly horrible movies most of the time that get released straight to DVD rather than the Multiplex.

I think Cruise's gave really good performances in Rain Man and Born on the 4th of July. Now don't me wrong, I don't think he has much range as an actor, but he is perfect for roles like A Few Good Men, Jerry Maguire, Rain Man, Top Gun, where is a cocky know-it-all d-bag.

I figured it would only be a matter of time before Heigl fell from grace on a more permanent basis . I think the director's claim that he would "happily work with her again" is based more upon him being a no-name hired gun than truth.

Yeah, Heigl isn't exactly a surprise. As was mentioned earlier in the thread, a lot of actresses come and go, and while she isn't that old and she still has her looks, she doesn't have the box office draw to survive being a diva on the set.

Heigl is actually attempting a comeback on TV. She signed on as a lead for a new NBC drama for next Fall. They did order a Pilot, so it's not guaranteed it will get picked up.
The trouble with her is she thought she was an A-list movie star after she left Grey's Anatomy and that didn't quite work out.

Looks like Heigl's rack couldn't compensate for everything.

Yeah, the article mentions that she's going back to TV (they use the fact that she's in a Nyquil commercial to show how far she's fallen). Wait, PenguinJoe didn't paste the article:

I didn't believe the NyQuil ad and did a search. It's a lie!!! She's in a Zzz-Quil ad! Hope is not lost.

What's sad is they don't even make use of her name or have her say anything as a celebrity spokesperson. This is just one notch above waiting tables in Hollywood.

What's sad is that I've seen that ZZZquil add on TV, thought it looked like her, but because she didn't say anything in the spot figured it was just a lookalike...

Re: Actors whose careers have fallen low and fast
The thing with Cage is when he gets a well written role and puts effort into it he can be great. His whole problem is that he just seems to accept any role that's tossed at him and doesn't filter out what is and isn't shit. I think he's got some pretty big financial issues that make it necessary for him to take whatever roles he can though too so that's probably a lot of it.
When I saw American Beauty, I thought that Wes Bentley was going to make it big. Instead he did Four Feathers and then dropped out of sight for a long time. I only recently found out that he spent a lot of the 2000's in and out of drug rehab. It sounds like he has a handle on it now and is working his way back.

Julia Stiles seemed like a very promising actress at some point, too many teen movies. It was cool to see her in Silver Linings Playbook as a mom because I was like that's the girl i crushed on in middle school as a mom?

I worked with him once a few years ago (in between his rehab stints) and he seemed fine. Again, it probably doesn't help matters much that he still continues to be in and out of rehab.
