Yeah but these same markets took Pirates of the Caribbean to $800 million. Never any accounting for tastes, of course...

I think a lot of that has to do with Depp, who has much bigger star power than Reynolds.

Goes without saying. But my point was that International audiences aren't the wine slurping, cheese scarfing cinéastes many pretend they are. They like superficial retarded shit just as much as the next guy, if not moreso. In fact, moreso!

Dark of the Moon earned $9.4 million yesterday. Down 7% from Wednesday. On the same Thursday, Fallen got a 6.5% bump from Wednesday and earned $11.6 million.

I've read weekend predictions of $43-$47 million, which would put the film right around the $260 million mark after 12 days. I think it'll end up around $350 million, but Harry Potter is definitely going to steal the thunder next week.

Anyone think Potter has a chance to beat The Dark Knight's opening record of $158 million?

It'll be close, but I think the record is safe. The previous best OW for HP was the last film's $125m, but I don't think the 3D premium is going to push that past $135-140m tops. I'm sure more fairweather fans will come out to see this last chapter, but they won't bother with it opening weekend.

Speaking of 3D, I find it amusing that tomorrow night there are about 8 showings of Potter here, only 1 in 3D, 6 showings are sold out the 3D isn't one of them.

It's Possible. Every single Friday show is sold out in my area, including the double feature. (DH Part 1 and 2) I can't get a ticket until Sat afternoon! Can't remember this ever happening before in my area.

I've been telling everyone they've gotta see TRANSFORMERS 3 in 3-D only at the AMC Lincoln Square IMAX theater in Manhattan. Well, today and tomorrow are the last times--it gets bumped out by HARRY POTTER on Friday!
So the only theater where you can properly appreciate TF3 in 3-D only shows it for two weeks.

Fandango reported that DH 2 is now #2 all-time in terms of pre-release ticket sales in their 11 year history, behind New Moon.

Part 1 opened to $125 million.
