Whatever. There are 6 other people who chose the same option I did in the Poll that you can hassle. Be sure to tell them it's their loss too. -kd5-

Finally got around to seeing this the other night on BD. Absolutely loved it, although I can see that it's not a film for everyone. Quiet, contemplative, poetic, thoughtful - those are the adjectives I would use to describe it. A lot of people have haphazardly compared it to Kubrick for obviously superficial reasons. I saw a lot more Tarkovsky and Bergman in it.
Yes, it was a bit slow-moving in spots, and it wasn't a flawless film. I agree with some opinions that it might have benefited by being trimmed fifteen to twenty minutes. But even with the flaws, I greatly appreciated the intelligence and "soulfulness" (for lack of a better term) of it. Even though there are a couple of other BP nominees I like as well, I sure wouldn't mind seeing TTOL win the Best Picture Award. It would be the best BP winner in several years in my mind.

Tried watching this last night. Did not appreciate or like at all but could understand why some would. Great visuals but after 45 minutes of not much of a story, I gave up. I haven't stopped a movie before it was over in a LONG time (Can't even remember the last one)...

My opinion of course :
My second viewing of this film and now I understand why I hate it so much. It is not a bad film at all, far from it.
Excellent cinematography, excellent acting, excellent music. The reason for my hate is because this could have
been a masterpiece but instead becomes a victim of its own self indulgence. The film is about a half hour too long.
It becomes very repetative : too much voiceover, the low angle tracking shots, even the lovely visuals get annoying after a while.
I also thought that the whole creation of the universe segment was unnecessary. Instead of that I would have preferred more footage
of Sean Penn's character. I have a feeling Malick did an "Adrien Brody" with Penn's role. It's a damn shame because I am a fan of Malick
and this happens to be his most personal film. Mr. Malick self-restraint can be a good thing.
