This. With how good the home experience can be now and all the possible issues at the theater, I just don’t find the risk worth it anymore. The big screen argument is losing its grip as this mattered when we had 25" tube TVs at home with mono sound. Now, that’s not the case. Sitting 8-10 feet away from a big OLED and having an Atmos or a good 5.1 setup is plenty damn immersive. Trust me.

I worked at a movie theater. That mess was always pretty common. But more because people can’t find their feed hole in the dark and then leave all the leftovers sit. It’s like the extreme version of not returning your shopping cart. I could never get into the mind of someone who thought that was ok.

This on the other hand is just kids having fun, which is a good thing. Hollywood wishes more people would be excited about a theater experience.

That’s just teens with an excuse to be absolute assholes and get away with it. I’m all for a Rocky Horror Show type audience participation experience but that just being dicks for the sole purpose of being dicks.

Theater workers still have to go in and clean that shit up afterwards.

Exactly... at a nearby theater the kids were also throwing/spilling their drinks all over the theater. Real easy to cleanup.

Re: Complaining About Theater Experience

Tonight, I experienced what was possibly the single most annoying thing I have ever experienced in a movie theater.

I am out of town and went to a "Big D" at the AMC nearby. First, 30 minutes of trailers (I've gotten used to 20, come on).

That wasn't it though. Throughout the trailers and during the credits, the house lights were flashing "along with" the screen presentation. At first I thought it was a lighting issue, but then I noticed some of it was either timed or triggered by the events on screen or the sound. It was the equivalent of an 8-year-old putting on "a rock concert."

I was getting aggravated, but thought it was just me until somebody behind me said, "They need to quit with these lights!" Several people were in vocal agreeance.

I turned around and asked if it was going to do that throughout the movie, as I don't think I had ever done a "Big D" before. I was afraid it was going to turn into one of those "added sensory" nightmares. They said they didn't know.

Thankfully, they did NOT do it during the movie, however they kicked it back in during the credits and post-credit scenes.

That shit can suck a Big D.

What's a "Big D" Dolby Cinema?

Beats the shit out of me. It was an IMAX equivalent, as far as I could tell.

I went to the movies, and I got the Big D. Would you like us to assign someone to butter your muffin?

Looks like it's a premium format in select states. No big market cities. Never heard of it until you brought it up.

So an AMC branded IMAX, basically.

I wonder if they show the IMAX format for movies that are available that way. It isn't in my home area, so I was unfamiliar with it.

Big D's was awesome. I spent some time in Idaho about 10 years ago for a bit and went to this one:

I don't believe the theater started out as an AMC -- they bought them out. I think it was a Carmike's.
