Since there's a lot talk in the regular "Taken" thread, thought it would be good to start this one for that discussion...

Twentieth Century Fox will distribute EuropaCorp's Liam Neeson starrer "Taken 2" in North America and most overseas territories.

Fox teamed with EuropaCorp on Pierre Morel's "Taken," which was budgeted at $25 million and turned into a megahit. Pic topped the U.S. box office over Super Bowl weekend in 2008 and went on to take $145 million Stateside and $226.8 million worldwide.
Besson also announced that Gaul's Olivier Megaton will helm "Taken 2."
It's Megaton's third feature. His latest, "Colombiana," a high-voltage revenge actioner toplining Zoe Saldana, will bow in Gaul on Aug. 3. TriStar Pictures will handle the U.S. release. Megaton previously helmed Jason Statham starrer "Transporter 3."

Third, eh? I guess his two foreign features, Exit and Red Siren, don't count.
I sure hope he does better with this than with Transporter 3. I imagine Neeson's presence will go a long way, though; as much as I liked District B13 and Taken, I can't say I feel Morel brought anything stylistically unique to the table as opposed to plain old skill.

Yeah...off of those two films as much as I enjoy them...I can't really see anything that stands out as unique to Morel.

Taken was a great movie but aside from the money this seems like a strange movie to do a sequel to. I'll likely still see it whenever it comes out but still.

Yeah...read that yesterday. I...just no. There's no way you can convince the audience who saw that same girl previously in the last film go all badass on us.

How old was Kim supposed to be in the 1st film? 16? Plus wasn't her career interest singing? Not sure how that will work if she's supposed to be involved in some badass action plot saving her Dad.
That synopsis mentions Bryan and his "wife" I assume Bryan would be newly married since Lenore was still with Stuart at the end of the last film.
But, I trust Robert Mark Kamen and Luc Besson, so we'll see what happens.

Replace the daughter with his buddies and yeah, I'd like that a lot more. They did a good job with the few scenes they had to really create a camaraderie between them.

Imagine if the sequel was actually about how the pony saves the stepdad. Then this reality only seems slightly worse.

A sequel could work if it had been about Neeson teaming up with his friends from the first film. One of them gets kidnapped or a have a friend/loved one/favourite pet in peril and Neeson teams up with the guys to kick some ass.

Ten thousand great, worthy scripts and ideas floating around Hollywood and they force a highly unlikely sequel on an average film. Of course the thing will sell $300MM in tickets. We get what we deserve.
Also, I despise Variety's cutesy, sentence fragment ridden "showbiz" style of writing. I know it's "tradition" but it's still irritating.

Yeah, either a movie that is about Neeson's last mission with the team (before the events of Taken), featuring extra team members who get killed along the way, or a new adventure with the same team members from the cookout would be best.
