Re: Ultimate List of 80s Slasher Horror Films

Would you guys consider Faceless (1988) to be slasher-y enough?

I think so. I put it under 1987, though, because IMDB lists that as its US video premiere. Thanks.

Re: Ultimate List of 80s Slasher Horror Films

Is this where the list ends? There is quite a bit of movies listed, but have we named all the 80s slashers?

No way. I guarantee there are some missing, but I can't be bothered to do the research right now. Sorry.

Can anyone else verify that Basket Case isn't a slasher? I haven't seen it.

You may want to slash your own throat about halfway through watching the movie ... but no, it's not a real slasher film.

I'm just seeing this thread for the first time and I am happy that Chopping Mall and Blood Diner were mentioned. They are two of my favorites growing up.

Where's "The Hitcher" 1986?

I wouldn't consider The Hitcher a slasher at all.

Yes it is!
The killer goes around killing with a knife and he's a wacko cause of his daddy.
Just think Norman Bates and his momma.

Just imagine Rutger Hauer wearing this the whole time.

It's more of an action-thriller with horror overtones, but I don't see anything "slasher" about it at all. However, not everything on the OP's master list, nor some of the suggested additions, including mine, are pure slasher films. Some fall into a grey area.

Yes I agree but to me a slasher film is a movie where the victims are hunted and tormented which this film is all about but yes it doesn't have the campy slasher feel or look but the slasher elements are there. Just my 2 cents

Thanks again, everyone. I've added Blood Diner and The Hitcher to the list.

I own no fewer than 117 of those... I feel pretty stupid, but I love it.

Re: Ultimate List of 80s Slasher Horror Films

I see a few giallo movies in there (Blade in the Dark, Stage Fright) so what about these?

Trhauma (1980)
House of the Yellow Carpet (1983)
Nothing Underneath (1985)
A Knife Under Your Throat (1986)
The Killer is Still Among Us (1986)
Too Beautiful To Die (1988)

Re: Ultimate List of 80s Slasher Horror Films

realized this thread is a little bit old and the OP might not update it but damn that's probably the most thorough list I've ever seen. It makes me realize how everybody and their brother tried to make a slasher movie in the 80s and how many of them are so awful.

I think everything I added above would definitely fit in there fine and if anyone else has seen those consider me surprised.

This one is listed, but under 1982. Thank you, though!

Thanks for the great additions. I have updated the list with everything you've suggested.

Stupid, or incredibly freakin' awesome?! I'm jealous.

Thanks to everyone who has contributed to this. Great work so far! Have we nailed them all yet?

possibly close to all of them. I can't think of anymore. It would be cool if you did lists for the 70's and 90's as well.

wait maybe I could- Evil Dead Trap (1988)
