ugh ... yet another trailer that appears to include the ending (the marching band) ... the idea is one that could work in a more modern setting, but the cast doesn't really grab me

The chase reminds me of Hitchcock's Family Plot. In both cases you have an elderly director who can't handle the rigors of elaborate stunt filming, and so resorts to making action sequences with techniques of the 1930s -- Family Plot with process shots, and Annie with close ups on set unconvincingly intercut by long shots.

Yeah plus I retract my statement, I think a Russia/Syria set version would be more culturally relevant at this time, since China seems to have backed off their child laws a little.

Ughh, I know I'm not the demographic for this movie - but I think it looks pretty awful. Cameron Diaz and Jamie Foxx both look miscast, and the overacting (yeah yeah, I know it's a kid's movie) is cringe worthy. Especially the references to Facebook in order to make it "hip". Honestly, I see Tyler Perry and Queen Latifah doing a much better job for this tone of movie. And I think it would've come off better if it were a period piece.

Don't be so jaded. This is a movie that tells an indisputable universal truth : Life is considerably better when you're raised by a kind, generous billionaire rather than in a neglected orphanage.

I hated the Huston movie. It was annoying to me as a kid. Solid tunes though.
Looks like standard mainstream. Meh. Dunno if I'll ever watch anything Annie again.

Sony LOVES to toot their horn. I wonder how hard it was for them to not have Lisbeth Salander showing off a Vaio laptop of theirs.

I never saw the original stage version, but I thought the Huston version was absolute garbage.
The TV remake from 15 years ago was solid, with a great cast. This one looks okay too.

Looks oddly pleasing and not as terrible as one would imagine. But I'll pass, just the same.
(Must admit, I do love the intro to 'Hard Knock Life'. Very catchy refrain.)

Do yourself a huge favor and don't read the first page of this thread. Some people get bizarrely passionate about black people starring in "white" roles. I'm sure the discussion continued on to page 2, but I was too depressed to click over.

Just noticed. Uh... I'm pretty sure the mod that changed the title probably has shit taste to do that. Not cool. That mod crossed a goddamn line.

I wouldn't see this in theaters but honestly I've been surprised to find myself thinking the previews don't really look that awful. Maybe because I'm not a fan of the original fan or Shirley Temple (I've always found her oddly creepy) but this looks like it could be a decent rental at least.
