LOS ANGELES, Calif. -- Bet your bottom dollar - Willow Smith may be taking on "Annie."
The young up-and-coming star - and famed Hollywood offspring -- may step into the iconic redheaded role in a film remake of the musical, according to Variety.
Dad Will Smith would potentially produce the project with Sony.
Although details of the possible reboot are still in the early stages, Jay-Z could come on board to help with the film's music, the trade mag reported. No word yet if it would be contemporary versions of the 1982 classic soundtrack or if all new songs would be used.
Of course, Jay-Z helped launch himself into pop culture superstardom with some help from the original "Annie," thanks to his "Hard Knock Life" homage in 1998.
Willow - whose breakout song, "Whip My Hair," was an instant hit under Jay-Z's Roc Nation record label - already has a handful of films under her belt at age 10. She appeared with dad Will in the 2007 horror film "I Am Legend," lent her voice to 2008's "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" and appeared in the kiddie franchise film "Kit Kittredge: An American Girl."
If the project does see the light, it would mark the second big screen feature Will has produced for one of his kids, after Sony's "Karate Kid" remake - starring son Jaden Smith - brought in more than $350 million at the worldwide box office in June 2010.

An Open Letter to Will and Jada Pinkett Smith:
We don't want to see your kids in movies. We often don't want to see you in movies. Let them be normal children. Thank you.

well maybe the remake will be more faithful to the Broadway 'musical' version than the last movie version - that ending was just plain awful IMO.

Can we just start calling the Smith Family racist, trying to remake movies that had a white lead actor, and replacing them with their kids?

In all fairness, this all started long before Will Smith bought careers for his kids (which we'd all probably do if we had the money and the connections). Anyone remember The Honeymooners movie? Not only did they change the characters' race, they changed the characters alltogether.
