2 had it's flaws but I absolutely hated the ending to 3, starting with the raptors and their egg; if I turn it off before watching the ending it isn't bad but those few minutes there at the end really bring it down for me.

I'll agree that 2 didn't really have the wonder that the first one did, but 3 has to get my vote.

3 had scenes that hinted at some interesting potential:

What happened to the characters after the events of the first movie?

Dr. Grant and Elly talk about things, the kid talking about how Dr. Grant dislikes dinosaurs now, and the fact that Grant's popularity anymore has to deal with people wanting to know about what happened on Jurassic Park were just interesting developments.

But things are wasted on the "meh" plot to get people on the island.


As much as I don't like 2 for not being as cool as the book, the RV cliff scene was absolutely perfect in suspense and tension.

^love that RV scene, used to rewind the VHS and watch it over and over.

TLW had the worst scene in the entire series, the gymnastics scene, but overall its a much stronger picture than 3. The score in TLW is also fantastic, one of the most underappreciated scores by Williams and it seriously elevates the movie.

Also, it had an awesome character played by Pete Posthlewait.

As it is, I think TLW serves as an acceptable, yet flawed, coda to Jurassic Park.

JP3 kinda feels like a reel of rejected action scenes from the first two movies barely tied together.

Ironic you mention that since a few of the scenes were lifted from the original JP novel which were never used for that film, IIRC. It's been a few years since I read it.

Lost world is fantastic. JPIII ruined my entire day after seeing it. Was seriously depressed because of how terrible and slight the whole thing was. Easily one of the worst (not to mention laziest) summer blockbusters of all time.

Jurassic Park 3 is the worst. At least TLW has a few terrific set pieces, an overlooked John Williams score and Pete Postlethwaite. Jurassic Park 3 has nothing. Not even Alexander Payne and Jim Taylor could save that brontosaurus-sized piece of shit.

The problem with part 3 is the franchise was tired by then. The dinosaurs no longer impressed. The CGI even looked crappy, and the constant screaming became really grating. The only real exciting part was when the black dude runs back to the plane saying we gotta get the hell out of here. lol

My pick is the one with the dinosaurs in it.

Very much this. Whatever good points TLW had was overwhelmed by all the crap. TLW aimed high and fell short. JP3 aimed lower and hit the mark.

That scene where Postlethwaite (awesome as usual) is about to fire on the dino and his hammers fall on empty chambers, and the scene shifts to Vaughn dumping the shells on the helicopter floor? It was clearly meant to be a triumphant, "golf clap" moment - music swelling, dramatic camera pan, lens flare out the wazoo - and all I could think was how every single death that followed after that moment was entirely on Vaughn's character's shoulders. JP3 would have been awesome if they had included a newspaper headline or tv report about his character's imprisonment for wrongful death.

The Lost World: Jurassic Park is a disappointment (the book is so much better), but it does have some great scenes in it.

Jurassic Park III doesn't have a single great scene in it and is, at best, just a collection of unused action sequences from the scripts of the previous two movies that were then just sloppily strung together (it's the only one that wasn't adapted from a Michael Crichton novel, so the overall storyline weakness really shows). It is by far the worst of the films.

Huh? Ian Malcolm (Jeff Goldblum) was the main character in Michael Crichton's novel The Lost World, so of course he would be in the movie version too. That does count as at least one logical reason.

I was all ready to answer "The Lost World" (and I did), because I just hated that movie when it came out. HATED IT! JP3 was terrible as well but at least it knew how to leave quickly.

Then I realized something... I had completely erased the Gymkata sequence from my mind.

Now that I remember it... I'm choking on the rage. I feel like I have to drown Bob Costas.

The worst one is Part II. Part III was more entertaining to watch.

btw I hate ALL of them.
