Is Carlos elegible for Oscars this year? Since i know it "debuted' on sundance channel. Did any of the art theaters in la or nyc play it before then?

How the hell are shows like Lost and Dexter missing from this list, or even an awesome (and supremely underrated) show like Chuck while Glee gets some major freakin' recognition from AFI? Am I missing something on their TV front?

The film list is pretty good though, overall.

Question: How does Toy Story 3 count as best "adapted" screenplay? Because it's a sequel based on another writer's story?

Glee is def an aquried taste. And it also depends on what episode you watch first (if you've only seen say the britney spears episode, def give it another chance)

Any sequel is considered adapted from characters originally created for the first part. Even if the same writers from Toy Story 1 had returned to pen the 3rd film, it would still be considered an adapted screenplay as far as oscars go.

Even if it wins Best Picture it will still be the Facebook movie.

There's 4 on that list I still have to see: True Grit, The Fighter, Black Swan (seeing Friday), and Toy Story 3 (not sure if I saw 2, so might have to have a marathon one of these weekends). The only one I'd take of the list is Winter's Bone. I'd put Shutter Island or The Ghost Writer in it's place.

Also, The Walking Dead? Did they see the finale? What a load of crap. And how about the scene in the boat with Andrea and her sister? "Maybe the no crying rule wasn't for the fish." Grade A writing there.
Nice, I agree about your top 3 except I liked Inception, so overall I'd put them:

1. TS3
2. How to Train Your Dragon
3. Tangled
4. Inception

I really like the Walking Dead even with the questionable acting. It doesn't bother me because it just seems par for the course for the genre.

Best animated flick from Dreamworks since Prince of Egypt.

Weird, I've been trained to think every animated non-Pixar film is sub-par and according to this list, I'm right.

I liked the movie and would give it 3 stars out of 4. I just don't see why it's a serious BP contender. Maybe you have to be into Facebook to really appreciate it? To me, it shows what a weak year this was if TSN is really considered the best.

Actually, my top 5 of the year list would go like this:

1. The Social Network
2. Black Swan
3. Scott Pilgrim vs. The World
4. Toy Story 3
5. How To Train Your Dragon

Inception won't make my top 10. Those rankings may also change based on how much I like True Grit.

Try it again. Fincher made a fascinating and riveting character study. The fact it was about the Facebook guy was just incidental.

I hate Facebook with a passion and it's the best film I've seen this year.

It's a superbly crafted film, impeccably directed with nary a wasted shot.
It's breathtakingly beautiful, incredibly well written and technically flawless.

Yeah it's that good.

I don't think you needed to be "into" 60 Minutes or tobacco lawsuits to appreciate The Insider; not sure how relevant one's interest in Facebook should be to the film. But then, I've not seen it so I'm merely speculating here.

That's funny, because I thought The Insider was significantly more boring than your average 60 Minutes report.

Well, I didn't find the characters in TSN all that interesting. But, I will see it again, so maybe I'll feel differently on a second viewing.

Not a bad list for movies.

Glad to see 'Winter's Bone' getting a nod. A modern masterpiece.

Semi-related. Ebert released his Top 10, some picks are a little different:

1. The Social Network
2. The King's Speech
3. Black Swan (surprising as it got a 3.5)
4. I Am Love
5. Winter's Bone
6. Inception
7. The Secret In Their Eyes
8. The American
9. The Kids Are All Right
10. The Ghost Writer

Honorable Mention:
127 Hours
All Good Things (very surprising as this movie mostly got slammed)
Carlos
Chloe
Greenberg
Hereafter
Monsters
Never Let Me Go
Rabbit Hole
Secretariat
Solitary Man
