Re: Superman: The Man of Steel (D: Snyder)
My use of the Darkseid clip was to use as an example of damage done upon Supes. Damage of the visual variety on his person. The JLU fight is better as a fight but not as an example of damage to the suit. Great clip though. I love what he says about his powers..it's so damn true.
I loved the ending to JLU. Was just...right. I had never seen a show show such a connection of elements to also be called back in a non corny way. It all made sense and it didn't come off in a tacky manner. Just really showed a large love for the material and great execution of the elements of story. Another reason why I love Mad Men.

Personally, I want to see a movie where Superman solves a problem by writing a scathing expose in the Daily Planet as Clark Kent and turns the public against the villain. The pen is, after all, mightier than the sword.

We need to see how much Superman usually holds back and what he's willing to sacrifice.

Russel Crowe might play Jor-El
Looks like they're going the original movie route at least in terms of casting. Cast a relative unknown as Clark/Supes and surround him with established actors.

You know, they could go the Smallville route and just use the voice of somebody without holograms, etc. Would probably make it feel less dated eventually.

I never would have guessed Russell Crowe for Jor-El, but that's an interesting choice, and adds to the already solid cast.
I also read that the role of Superman's biological mother is being offered to Connie Nielsen.

If this were five years ago I would insert a joke about Russel Crowe throwing a phone at Superman to start the conversation.

Julia Ormond Up For Man of Steel
Zack Snyder may have cast another important piece of the Superman mythos. Deadline is reporting that Julia Ormond has been offered the role of Lara, Kal-El's birth mother, in the upcoming Man of Steel.
Ormond is best known for appearances in films like Legends of the Fall and, more recently, Steven Soderbergh's Che and The Curious Case of Benjamin Button. She would likely appear opposite Russell Crowe, who was recently offered the part of Jor-El, Superman's Kryptonian father.
On the Earth side of things, Kevin Costner and Diane Lane are confirmed as Superman's adopted parents with Henry Cavill playing the title role. Amy Adams, meanwhile, will play Lois Lane with Michael Shannon and Antje Traue portraying the criminal villains, Zod and Faora, respectively.
Man of Steel is expected to begin shooting shortly with a release targeted for December, 2012.

Love Julia. Nice bit of casting there.
Only wish she'd had a more substantial career 15 years ago.

It's funny that Russell Crowe would be Jor-El since he was offered the role of Superman in one of the many aborted attempts at making a Superman movie before Superman Returns.

If Russell Crowe is playing Jor-El, then why is he currently in Plano, Illinois, which is where they are shooting the Smallville scenes? He's been seen for the last several days.

Will Superman wear red tights in this movie version, or the newly re-designed Superman costume from the impending DC implosion, er, I mean, September Reboot?

Re: Superman: The Man of Steel (D: Snyder)
As far as the tights, I think they should get rid of them and come up with a costume a bit more updated. But don't put lines and curves over the elbows or kneecaps that looks weird.

True, which makes it more interesting. Rehearsals? But why would one of the world's biggest stars be in podunk (it's my hometown, I can call it that) months ahead of shooting for a part of the film he shouldn't be in? Weird. Unless he's actually cast as Pa Kent.

Spoiler:
That's a pretty minor cosmetic change compared to the abortions of the past. Superman Blue/Red anyone?

In the script I read, Jor El comes to earth as well, goes into hiding and reappears from time to time to give advice to Superman during key decision-points in his life.
