It's PG-13...

I'm not saying it will be bad, but it won't be as good as it could have been. Neutered action scenes suck.

I don't know. while you can't get away with a ton of violence against humans, you usually can against robots. R would be better, obviously, but that may not be completely horrible.

The rating doesn't bother me (or thrill me) one bit. There are plenty of shitty R-rated movies so that particular rating is not a sign of quality in of itself.

I guess Sony takes less of a chance with a big budget film and making it PG-13 than with a smaller budget film and an R rating like District 9. And Sony didn't even finance D9.

Battle LA looks pretty darned good, PG-13 or not.

It looks pretty epic. I'm definitely going to catch this one.

PG-13 can be pushed far enough that I'm ok with this. Honestly, as long as your script isn't language-heavy, you can easily get a PG-13 unless it's a total bloodbath.

I say it's going to suck!

You can't do a bad ass 'battle' without lots of language and a literal bath of blood.

You're all rationalizing.

So are the aliens robots or are the things shown in the trailer vehicles? Does anyone know if they will be shown in the movie?

If the story and the characters are engaging enough, I don't miss the hard R profanity and the bloodbath. For me, those elements aren't required for a bad ass battle.

I think a lack of profanity makes a movie like this a bit less realistic. If I were in the middle of a war with aliens, you better believe I'd be dropping F-bombs all over the place.

*sigh* yes...I'm sure we'll see the aliens. In the trailer we see them behind a guy....looks like they're semi organic and mechanical.

How do you know? How many alien wars have you actually been in?

I'm not fine with this being PG-13. I know it's a cash move but the minute I saw that my heart dropped. There've been so many comparisons to this being the 2011 version of Independence Day... well, I hated that movie but I'm still trying to have high hopes for this one.

What's the deal with all the PG-13 bashing? I think there have been alot of great PG-13 action/sc-fi movies over the years.

I'm really looking forward to this flick. PG-13 or not.

Great poster, even if the first thing that popped into my mind was G1 Unicron. The second being G1 Cybertron.

Re: Battle: Los Angeles (2011, Dir-Liebesman, Eckhart)

I heard Neyo in this movie revised his song...goes something like this:

♪♫ In all my life, and the hereafter, i've never seen aliens like you

You're a knife, sharp and deadly, and its me, that you cut into

But i don't mind, in fact i like it, though i'm terrified, i'm turned on but scared of you

(Chorus)
She's a alien, beautiful alien, beautiful alien, but i don't mind
And i need her, said i need her, beautiful alien, but i don't mind
♪♫

Okay, but those are just my personal opinion as solid PG-13 action/sci-fi movies recently.

Taken
Star Trek (2009)
Inception
Red
Unstoppable

going back a little futher:
War of the Worlds
Minority Report

None of those are about all out war, though.

Most everyone preferred the R cut of 'Taken'.

Well, it's the difference between James Cameron's Aliens and Roland Emmerich's Independence Day.

One has high tension, tight scripting, true suspense and a genuine sense of dread.

The other has Will Smith saving the world.

It comes down to preference, I suppose.

Spoiler:
The alien warriors we see have their gear attached/grafted on their skin as they're of the warrior variety. Shit you see flying around are sort of drones that are controlled by the large shit.

Pretty kick ass movie that really wont be effected by the PG-13 rating, to be honest.
