That's one reason why I find the film weaker than many people. Movie Zuckerberg is almost a tragic character and Eduardo, who we're supposed to feel sorry for, ends up coming off as a whiny leech.

Yes, he funded it, but he scoffed at Zuckerberg's agreement with Parker and shows up at the end, after failing (intentionally or not) in the business world.

Was getting edged out of the company shady? Yes, but it's not like they left his pocket empty.

Leech might be a little strong. I felt Eduardo was a true friend to Mark (the only one he had) and he felt slighted by Parker, who knew exactly how to manipulate Mark.

Eduardo then, rashly, freezes accounts and that became his undoing.

That is how I took it. However, I do find your point to be valid, even though I don't agree.

$19,000 check is definitely leaving his pocket empty.

saw the movie for the first time tonight and pretty much agree with this ^

not going to take top spot for best movie of 2010 for me (Black Swan) but still a fantastic movie

and I won't be posting my praise for this movie on my Facebook site since I don't have and never have had one

Very intelligent film driven by Eisenberg's quick wit and sharp tongue... he's definitely a smart guy himself.

I don't know if others have noticed but there's appears to be a prevalent "blue" theme once they start Facebook. The Asian restaurant is blue, Eduardo's tie is blue, there are other examples too. It's an interesting film to study much like Black Swan.

Loved it. Those 2 hours just flew by. As someone on here said, If the material is in the hands of talented people, even dull material on paper can make fascinating/great movies

Re: The Social Network (Fincher, 2010) — The Reviews Thread

Just got done watching this and I will say I really enjoyed it. Not Fincher's Best but a very good movie. Also Not the best movie of the year like many say but very solid.

Acting all around was pretty strong, but I never felt like Timberlake was the creator of Napster. Even though there wasn't much wrong with his acting, it feels like he was miscast. Rest of the cast was perfect. Loved the cinematography great looking film.

8/10

I asked this in another thread and it was suggested that I ask it here instead.
What I wanted to know is how much of this movie is a true story? thanks

That's kind of a tall order. I recommend trying to research it.

per wiki
Zuckerberg stated to Oprah Winfrey that the drama and partying of the film is mostly fiction, explaining "this is my life, so I know it's not so dramatic," and that he spent most of the past six years focusing, working hard, and coding Facebook.

Also from reading and what not, Sorkin's even on record as saying its not 100% non fiction

Also found this little nugget on imdb
In October 2010, the real Sean Parker told Vanity Fair that he actually once met Justin Timberlake and that Timberlake wanted to get to know him better for his preparation for his role in this movie. Parker then replied getting to know the real Sean Parker wouldn't help Timberlake at all, because the Parker from Aaron Sorkin's script has little to do with the real person.

I totally agree with this.

I usually look at my watch a couple of times during any movie because I'm neurotic like that.

The first time I checked my watch during this film there was only 5 minutes left.

After watching this twice, then twice again with commentaries, then the special features on the Blu-ray, my appreciation for this film has only begun.

couldn't agree more. Having watched every single bonus feature, I was way more appreciative of the film than before. Jesse Eisenberg's comments during the commentary really shed some light on the Mark Zuckerberg character. And performances that I thought were a little weak were much better in context to what had been said during the features.

if that makes any sense.

As much as I love the film, I just can't dig the HD cam. It...just...looks....off. That's the camera capability itself...not the filmmaker.

Re: The Social Network (Fincher, 2010) — The Reviews Thread

This was just an average film for me brought to moderately higher levels due to the score by Trent Reznor (f'n fantastic score - very talented guy) I just can't relate to spoiled college kids....no matter how smart they may be.

So why did I watch this film? Because I love technology and am really taken back by how far some people go with it. While this movie brought that to life really well; It still felt flat to me.

Re: The Social Network (Fincher, 2010) — The Reviews Thread

I liked this movie but I wouldn't say I thought it was the best film of this year for me. I really liked the performances all around and the film was more interesting than I expected it to be and the score was great as well. However I'd still say I liked The Town, True Grit, Inception, Toy Story 3 more than this. Not even my favorite film by Fincher either, I'd probably give that to Zodiac.

I've rewatched the movie 3 different times already. One of those times, I was just going to spot watch a few specific scenes and watched the whole thing again. The 1.5 hr special feature was fantastic. Can't wait to watch the movie again with the commentaries.

Also adding to my appreciation of the film, the screenplay is now available free from Sony.
