Re: Easy A (2010)
I enjoyed it very much. Very funny, but in the end lacking the special "thing" that makes truely great films remembered for years. It relyed too much on call backs and references to other, older teen films. It relyed on the magic of those films instead of making its own magic.
The Ojai locations were beautiful and I appreciate a film being shot on location, yet somehow the whole thing had a cheap look that didn't help it. Like a 90 minute TV show.
Emma Stone did a thing with her eyes during the dinner at the seafood restaurant. Like each eye went in a different direction. It was funny and sexy at the same time. She's very talented. She carried an overwritten script that wouldn't have worked if some Gossip Girl flunky were in the lead.

I do agree that the references to the other 80's films meant it would never actually transcend those movies in the public mindshare, but I myself enjoyed it more than several of the movies she referenced in her "I want to be in an 80's movie" monologue.
I've had this movie in my head since I saw it last night. I decided it was good enough to purchase on Blu-ray.

An above-average high school flick. All of the actors were fine, although Thomas Haden Church was wasted in his role as a teacher. Would've loved to see a lot more of Olive's home life with her parents Stanley Tucci and Patricia Clarkson, they were terrific. And a thumbs up for the 80s movie references.
It was enjoyable but the whole school is buzzing because one previously invisible student had sex?
