I think as a collective forum, we should push this as the next film for a cult resurgence. Troll 2 was sooooo two years ago.

This movie is like Bad Boys of the 80's, if it were directed by Adam McKay. It's super-stupid, feels lazy and is a lot of fun. Not sure if that's a Peter Hyams thing or what. If you can get into his movies (I think of Timecop and End of Days), they're usually a lot of fun. But it's total escapism that you have to accept. He seems to completely disregard the idea of putting the movie 'in a real place'. It's a place of characters, attempts at comedy, disregard for law, plot conveniences, etc.
The plot was completely ridiculous and disjointed. For instance, when they got back from FL, the scene was so stupid-gay and disjointed, that I thought it was some drug trip or dream or something. And then the movie kept going. And I was like, "oh, that really happened, eh".
But, yea, overall this movie is freakin' awesome.

I saw this film twice in the theater when I was in high school, and sang its praises to anyone who would listen. Banter was great. Chemistry as everyone has mentioned was terrific, and I too wish they had made a sequel. When Hines died, I realized that window had closed, but I think you can really see how much he and Crystal clicked. You believed they had been partners all those years.
If you haven't seen this film, there are MUCH worse ways to spend two hours.

As goofy as the Sweet Freedom scene is, I prefer the Man Size Love (by Klymaxx) scene. Both of those songs make me instantly think of this movie.

Haven't seen this in a while. I have it recorded off MGMHD. I love 80's Billy Crystal.
Hines is great too - he delivered one of my favorite lines in a comedy (not this one): "Aww seize this honkus!"

I love Running Scared and think it actually holds up better than the 1st Lethal Weapon.

I really like this movie too, but...I really don't think I understand exactly what the plan was for Gregory Hines' character at the end. OK - so Billy Crystal is stuck in a glass elevator with bad guys shooting at him, not a great idea, but at least he wasn't just dangling from the lobby ceiling in a climbing harness, waiting to be blasted.
Oh - and I got about halfway through a Sammo Hung film called (sigh) Skinny Tiger and Fatty Dragon before I realized it was a kind of Hong Kong remake of Running Scared.

Hey, whaddya expect? I'm a paisan'! What do you want me to do, cook you up a pot of Ragù? You want me to sweat garlic for you? Huh? Sing an opera? Lose a war? -- Ray Hughes

Possibly the most underrated movie of all time, and truly a terrific "buddy cop" classic. Excellent action, fantastic one-liners, surprisingly great chemistry between the leads, and an eclectic but strong cast including Billy Crystal, Gregory Hines, Steven Bauer, Joe Pantoliano, Dan Hedaya, and Jimmy Smits.
it is a shame what they did to the DVD cover tho considering how cool the original movie poster was.

Watching this right now, and so far so good.
Too bad Bruce Willis and Tracy Morgan didn't have this type of chemistry in Cop Out, as this seems like the type of film that Smith was emulating.

I just saw it completely for the first time after seeing bits and I have to say it's not bad and agree with a lot of the sentiment already said about the banter. It did take a while before it actually got funny as some of it felt forced with the quick quips.
I liked the Sweet Freedom montage though, totally 80's cheese.

Although it's a comedy, it has one of my favorite tough-guys quotes, by Billy Crystal of all people.
"If you hurt her, you will never be dead enough."

I've seen this a few times years ago and recall it being very entertaining. I need to see it again sometime to see if it still holds up. I do agree the dvd cover is awful while the original poster was far better.

Just streamed this in HD off Netflix yesterday.
HOLY SHIT.
Fucking loved it. Between this and 1974's BUSTING, Hyams had a serious knack for making buddy cop films with great synergy between the leads.
This is the best role I've ever seen Crystal in. I don't think I ever realized how funny he could be. And Hines is someone I've always known about, but I hadn't seen much of his work. His wit and timing are as impeccable as Crystal's.
Great cast, too. You've got so many familiar faces in here half the fun is picking out who you recognize next.
I love how when the captain told them to take a vacation, rather than do the usual "on vacation but let's bust the bad guy anyway" routine, these two actually go on vacation and have a fucking blast.

Love this movie, and specifically the vacation scenes in the middle. Whenever I see it on I tune in hoping it's around the Key West time.

Haven't seen this since I was a kid but remember liking it. I'm a big Billy Crystal in his prime fan. It happens to be showing Saturday night on MGM-HD.

I love the humor and chemistry as much as anyone but there's also grittiness that Hyams brought to all of his '80's films. I can't believe how many really good actors were in this.

I watched it last night, still love it! A couple things I noticed though: I have never heard anyone refer to the tollway as I-190 here in Chicago, and the film is dated now that Billy Crystal mentions there's no baseball or basketball in Florida, lol!
