Running Scared (1986, Crystal/Hines) Appreciation Thread
Possibly the most underrated movie of all time, and truly a terrific "buddy cop" classic. Excellent action, fantastic one-liners, surprisingly great chemistry between the leads, and an eclectic but strong cast including Billy Crystal, Gregory Hines, Steven Bauer, Joe Pantoliano, Dan Hedaya, and Jimmy Smits.
it is a shame what they did to the DVD cover tho considering how cool the original movie poster was. http://www.starwarped.net/files/othe...-dvd-cover.jpg http://www.thefilmwall.com/wp-conten...ails/33430.png (couldn't find anything larger online) |

I've actually never seen the film, but I think I had the soundtrack on CD at one time so I could listen to Sweet Freedom by Michael McDonald

Re: Running Scared (1986, Crystal/Hines) Appreciation Thread
I agree with the OP this was a great film and deserves wider recognition.

Re: Running Scared (1986, Crystal/Hines) Appreciation Thread
I've only seen bits and pieces of the film, but I kind of liked what I saw. Weird seeing Billy Crystal with a gun, though.

I used to watch this as a kid all the time on TNT and loved it. Now I feel like buying the dvd, dammit.

The film has excellent cinematography. For a comedy made in the '80s it has really gritty, controlled pallate.

Re: Running Scared (1986, Crystal/Hines) Appreciation Thread
Ray (Gregory Hines): Pointing a gun at a police officer. Can we waste them for that?
Danny (Billy Crystal): I think so. Danny: Excuse me, we're from Noisebusters. Do you know where the Menudo concert is? Danny: Hablo, Smith and Wesson? You have the right to remain *dead*. Anything you do will be used against you. You have the right to a *coroner*. If you cannot afford one, we will appoint a medical examiner for you. |

Loved this movie...especially the chase on the L. Both Hines & Crystal had incredible chemistry and were actually believable as undercover cops.

Really good movie.

Re: Running Scared (1986, Crystal/Hines) Appreciation Thread
Don't know how many times I've seen it. Just a really good comedy movie.
The nun chase is great. So many funny scenes. |
Re: Running Scared (1986, Crystal/Hines) Appreciation Thread
I'd talk more about how much I love this movie, but, uh oh, gotta go, Final Jeopardy is on.

Re: Running Scared (1986, Crystal/Hines) Appreciation Thread
100%. The chemistry between Crystal and Hines was simply amazing and the script is simply hilarious. The scene where Hines knocks on the door and double flips off the little kid is one of the funniest scenes in cinema history.

Shit movie but still better than the even worse-smelling dysenteric shit movie that was the Paul Walker-starring Wayne Kramer-directed 2006 piece of fuck.

I haven't seen the movie in about 20 years, but I remember liking it a lot. Crystal and Hines had great chemistry. |

Peter Hyams directed good stuff in the 70s and the 80s, then it all went downhill.

 That's probably the only Paul Walker movie I can stand. I though he, and the movie itself, was fantastic.

Hilarious movie, I would love to have seen a sequel.
Lots of nifty violence too. PLUS, even the Sweet Feedom video with Hines & Crystal was funny too. |

Re: Running Scared (1986, Crystal/Hines) Appreciation Thread
I watched this movie so much when I was younger that I still have the dialogue memorized. Hilarious movie with great chemistry between the leads. Jimmy Smits played a decent bad guy too. I might watch this today.

Captain Logan: [to Ray and Danny] Hey! That jumper yesterday? Just got a flash from the coroner on the cause of death!
Danny Costanzo: Oooh, let me guess. Deceleration trauma. Ray Hughes: Cement poisoning. Captain Logan: He drowned. Danny Costanzo: Oh, poor guy couldn't swim or fly, huh? Danny Costanzo: [unable to arrest Snake] This block is being designated a Neighborhood Watch Area. There's a guy up here named Snake. He's wearing garage-sale clothes and the top of his head looks like a parakeet. He also has FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS in small bills in a briefcase. As his neighbors, it is your responsibility to make sure there are no suspicious characters or evil perpetrators lurking in the area who would seek to do him harm. Again, FIFTY THOUSAND DOLLARS in small bills, tax free, in a briefcase right in this apartment. Which has a really cheeseball lock! You can bust your way in there, bop him on the head, take the money, nobody would know! So it's UP TO YOU. Thanks a lot, have a good day. I could watch this movie every day. Really I could. |
