Re: The Expendables 2 (2012?)
Since Jet Li is barely gonna appear in the sequel (it seems he's just an extended cameo this time around), I'm imagining that Donnie Yen will be a guy that Jet Li recommends to the team.

I can't stay long, guys, but I know this other Asian guy that's pretty cool to hang out with. Let me introduce you guys since he's new to town and stuff.

The look they gave him is weird but Scott Adkins is a badass so I'm happy he's in this (and as Van Damme's chief henchman no less).

As long as they shoot/edit it like this, I'll be happy:

Although the look isn't doing him any favours, he could look like a gay emo hipster for all I care, as long as he kicks ass:

on the action scale of entertainment...would I enjoy this film. I remember seeing the trailer and I just thought it was too stupid. BUT...does it have enough fight scenes or action in general for me to not pay attention to a shit story...if it is as bad as I assume...storywise?

Here's my blurb on NINJA from that thread:
One of those DTV shot-in-Bulgaria numbers, but one that actually shows a high degree of energy and imagination. Adkins may not be much of an actor, but he sure sells the fight scenes. I was quite impressed. This starts out pretty much the same way ENTER THE NINJA did, but, unlike the earlier film, actually sticks to its ninja rival plot. Most of is set in New York City, but was shot entirely in Bulgaria on studio sets and public buildings there. Granted, I knew it wasn’t New York, but it sure looked good. Kind of like the way they used to fake New York on the old Hollywood backlots. I was hooked.

To see more of Adkins check out the recent Assassination Games, also with Van Damme.

Actually while youtubing around...I got a clip of him vs. Kelly Hu in The Tournament...it was good. It was a short yet entertaining fight. I do wish he was in the new UniSol film.

oh shit...somehow I forgot that I knew that. I even commented on it in that thread. We need more news on that one too too. UniSol 4! I can't wait!

That's obviously rather cheap looking, but the fight itself is kind of cool. Really, there's no excuse for a movie made by two Power Rangers alumni for what looks like my credit card limit to have fight scenes staged more coherently than an $80-100 million dollar movie with top talent
So is this whole "shot in Bulgaria" concept common to keep costs down on DTV movies? I must admit I've had the Undisputed movies in my queue for a while now along with Ninja.
I watched NINJA earlier this year for the B-Movie Challenge on the DVD Talk board and I remember enjoying it on a basic action movie level. It took me a while to get used to Bulgaria as a stand-in for New York--those super-clean subways, for one thing--but the production designer showed real imagination and somehow made it work. Adkins isn't much of an actor, but he's a very good screen fighter, which is more important in a film like this.

It can be had new for $7 on BD right now.
