Monsters (2010) dir. Gareth Edwards
After watching this new trailer, this movie seemed cool enough to warrant it's own thread. I'm getting a distinctly Cloverfield-meets-District 9 vibe from the promotional materials and footage shown. I'm a total sucker for monster flicks, and I'm hoping this turns out to be solid.

I realize there are many types of creatures in this film, but i have to say that the Giant monster genre is way undeserved in this day and age. It's good to see at least one is being released.

Trailer looked sweet. I usually love movies like this. I didn't read the review because I didn't want to read any spoilers but I did see in the first line that the movie was made for $15,000. Is that right?
I, too, was getting a Cloverfield vibe from it, but Cloverfield was made for $25 million, which is also crazy low in this day and age, but what kind of movie can you make for $15,000?
I don't need Godzilla destruction and it doesn't need to be a $200 million bloated piece of shit, but I just don't see how you can make a monster movie for so little money. We don't need to see the monster constantly--Cloverfield did this brilliantly in my opinion. The monster showed up only briefly but when it did it was very impressive. But, again, Cloverfield cost $25 million. If this only cost $15,000 I can't imagine how we'll see the monster even once. I mean to be an effective monster movie, the monster at least has to be well done and be seen at least a couple times and that takes money.
In any event, unless this gets terrible reviews when it opens I'll see it.

Gareth Edwards apprently was the Director/Writer/DP/VFX Artist so i imagine he didn't take a big salary which probably help keep costs low.

I watched this on OnDemand tonight.
I really wanted to like it, but I thought it sucked. I don't know if the movie was trying to establish some kind of deeper meaning but if it was, then I completely missed it.
I found it extremely boring, with boring and ridiculous dialogue and basically no climax. The creatures were somewhat cool, especially if the budget really was only $15,000 but there didn't even seem to be a point to the creatures.
It's basically a character movie but the characters are boring and lifeless.
I'd love to have my 10 bucks back.

Watched this the other night... I really liked it. I didn't find it boring because the world was so completely fleshed out. I actually didn't want it to end. It's very much a character driven film but the world is very interesting. I say watch it.
I would love to see a making-of on this movie.

Add me to the "This movie sucks ass" list. I knew before watching it not to expect a monster movie..so I was prepared. But the love story element sucked ass....so yeah.

I liked it a lot. It was well directed, well shot, well acted. And I liked both the characters and the story.
Considering the budget and comparing it to what some other people put out with 10x the crew and money, it was kinda mind blowing.
Might be the only low-budget movie I've ever seen that didn't in any way seem low-budget.
Bravo I say!

The problem is that even with low expectations, this movie just fails to deliver. It had a lot of opportunity but didn't jump on any of them.
