Bill Murray

Let's discuss a true original...a one of a kind performer.

What's your favorite Bill Murray movie/ performance?

Re: Bill Murray

I think Life Aquatic was definitely his best... A very underrated film too. Really brought it home though, emotionally, and it was hilarious to boot.

Re: Bill Murray

Gotta go with Groundhog Day. I think he was at his Bill Murray-ist in that.

Re: Bill Murray

Despite his occasional, effective effort in a more dramatic role, Murray has been and continues to be an overwhelmingly comedic actor. He was most on top of his craft, IMHO, in Ghostbusters.

"What About Bob?"

An amazing comedic performance.

Re: Bill Murray

Favorite?

My immediate reaction is to go with Stripes for favorite. It's obviously not the best movie, but it's my favorite Bill Murray.

Re: Bill Murray

Bill is great in every single one of the movies listed above. It wasn't really a tough choice because Rushmore is one of my absolute favorites but there is not a performance to scoff at on that list.

The man was diabolical in Kingpin. But I refuse to vote in this poll.

Re: Bill Murray

Choosing a single favorite was almost impossible, but in the end I had to go with Groundhog Day.

Re: Bill Murray

I was always partial to his role in Cradle Will Rock, though it's not my favorite Bill Murray movie. I just thought he was really good in that movie.

Re: Bill Murray

I have never been a huge fan of Bill Murray's comedy. But I did find that I really like him in dramatic roles like in Last in Translation and Broken Flowers. I also like him in supporting comedic roles in films like The Royal Tennebauns. I think what I liked about him in that was the humor was more low key.

Re: Bill Murray

I think Groundhog Day showcases the quintessential Bill Murray performance, but I wouldn't say it is my favorite, or that it is his best film.

Re: Bill Murray

I adore Bill Murray, so I could have easily voted for any film on this list. However, his turn as Big Ernie McCracken in Kingpin is easily one of my favourites, so I had to go with that.

Re: Bill Murray

Man, this one is tough - because for me it's a four way tie when it comes to my favorite performance from Bill Murray (Caddyshack, Stripes, Ghostbusters, and Groundhog Day).

When it comes to my favorite Bill Murray movie? I'm leaning towards Groundhog Day, but I really like Stripes and Ghostbusters, too. (I don't see Ed Wood as a Bill Murray movie since he just has a small supporting role...)

Ghostbusters is THE Murray film. Stripes, though, is one of my all-time favorites as well.

Re: Bill Murray

Bill IS an original in every sense of the word. Did anyone read the EW article on him? He has no agent or publicist. In order to get him to read a script, you have to leave a message on his answering machine and hope for the best. He's a very weird guy and as a director, I'd be scared to death about hiring him for a movie. But I do love his work.
I went with Groundhog Day, mostly because I see it as the bridge between his early zany stuff and his more serious acting of the past 10-15 years.

he's best when he's a sarcastic ass.

Recruiter: "Have you ever been convicted of a felony"
Bill: "Convicted? ... no ... never convicted"

Groundhog Day a close second, though not near as funny.
