Shit, yea... I probably should have gone with Day of the Dead. '85 was a great year for zombie lovers!

Re: Favorite movie of 1985???????

1985 was easily the worst year in my life. On Jan. 2, I got in trouble at my job (over something I wrote!), my father died on March 1 after a long illness, and in May, my wife and I broke up when I learned she was cheating on me. (I even moved in with my mother for a few months.) So I didn't have a lot of time for movies.

I did make more trips to 42nd Street theaters that year than at any other time. My best experience there was INVASION USA. Perfect movie to see with that crowd. RE-ANIMATOR wasn't bad, either.

Probably my two favorite movies of that year were both things I didn't see till the next year, PEE WEE'S BIG ADVENTURE and RAMBO: FIRST BLOOD PART 2. I'd pick one of these as my favorite of 1985, but I'd have to see both again to see which one holds up.

In the 1990s, I would catch up with various Hong Kong movies and anime features from 1985:

MARTIAL ARTS OF SHAOLIN - Jet Li
MR. VAMPIRE
MY LUCKY STARS
POLICE STORY - Jackie Chan, in what I'd probably pin down as the best HK film that year
TWINKLE, TWINKLE LUCKY STARS
YES, MADAM! - Team-up of Michelle Yeoh and Cynthia Rothrock

DAGGER OF KAMUI - very influential ninja anime and easily my favorite anime feature of 1985
GOSHOGUN: TIME ETRANGER
NIGHT ON THE GALACTIC RAILROAD
VAMPIRE HUNTER D

1985 rules. It's probably my 2nd favorite movie year next to 1982. Picking a favorite is quite difficult with so many awesome movies to choose from, but I guess I'll go with Back to the Future

Either Dance With a Stranger or My Beautiful Laundrette.

Odd that both are British and I don't particularly like much British cinema.

Back To The Future followed closely by The Goonies. I loved Return Of The Living Dead too.

I was going to say The Breakfast Club, but then I saw The Goonies listed. I'll go with The Goonies. I think I saw it 7 times at the theater. I even wrote a sequel to it that summer, complete with shitty drawings.

Re: Favorite movie of 1985???????

Wow, so many movies in that year I absolutely love. We got our first VCR around that time, and the very first movie our family ever rented was BTTF, so just for that alone it's among my top picks.

Better Off Dead, Goonies, European Vacation, Fright Night, and Return of the Living Dead are probably the ones I've watched the most times. I could watch any of those films right now, remember every line of dialogue, and still love the movie.

Way further down the list, I have soft spots for Once Bitten, Gotcha, Porky's Revenge, Just One of the Guys, and Girls Just Want to Have Fun. All more to nostalgia than anything else, but still...
