Re: Inception (Nolan, 2010)- The Reviews Thread
I went to see The Killer Inside Me, and after I left the theater I was walking behind this old guy. We passed by a group of guys standing in front of an Inception poster and the old guy stops by them and says "don't see this confusing piece of shit, I just walked out"

Voted 4 stars, but I'd give this 4 1/2.
Excellent film, and easily the best thing Nolan has done since Memento. I think he's got an incredible knack for putting together an amazing emsemble of talented actors. Hell, he even got me to accept Ellen Page in this... and I loathe her acting with a passion. Maybe her lack of sarcastic retorts made her more easily digestible here, though. And JGL is a show stealer... I think he's simply astounding.
I'll need to see the film again before I can fully absorb everything that was thrown at me, but I'm a firm believer that in the end

I just came back from seeing this. I really liked it. However, I need to see it a few more times to decide wether I liked it as much or more than The Prestige (my absolute favorite Nolan film). However, I think I did like it better.

I greatly enjoyed the film, although it was a struggle to keep up what with all the annoying people around me. The action sequences in the hotel was really amazing. Unfortunately, I had to leave theater before the ending, so I need to go back and see what people are buzzing about.
Seriously.
I think some kind of invisible force DOESN'T want me to see this film!

Let's hear your thoughts on the casting of Marion Cotillard, who's most famous for winning an Academy Award for playing Piaf and if it has anything to do with the Edith Piaf music being used as their "wake-up" music (and it's slowed-down version being used as the score).

She was good in the Edith Piaf movie.
She was good in Inception and the Edith Piaf music was fitting. Don't know what else to think. Nolan commented in the past that the Edith Piaf song was written into the script years ago.

No, it's just that Ariadne is "killrushing crushing building, and Mal, in her dream training. It's simpler than you assume

Nolan's script, Zimmer said, offered clues as to how the musicians should dig beneath the surface of the characters. The charged symphonic brass of Piaf's "Non, Je Ne Regrette Rien" was targeted for use by Nolan yet almost dropped from the film when Marion Cotillard, who starred as Piaf in 2007 film "La Vie en rose," was cast as Cobb's wife, Mal. Zimmer, however, said he talked Nolan into keeping the song in the film, arguing that audiences would not be distracted by the connection. Pieces of Piaf's interpretation of the song were stretched, manipulated and woven into Zimmer's score.
