Guillermo Del Toro may not be directing The Hobbit (boo!), but he does have a slew of other projects in the works. One of them, a remake of Don't Be Afraid of the Dark, now has an official release date. Read on for all the gory details.

Heat Vision broke the news recently that the film -- which is a retelling of the 1973 original TV movie -- will hit theaters on January 21st of next year. Del Toro isn't helming the film, but he did write it and served as producer. Instead, the project is being helmed by Troy Nixey and features a cast that includes Katie Holmes, Guy Pearce and Jack Thompson.

The film is set to focus a young girl (Bailee Madison) who moves in with her father and his girlfriend. Apparently she wakes up a bunch of angry creatures who want to kill them all. Sounds delightful!

January is generally a dumping ground for films that weren't good enough for the holiday season, but the past few years have seen some horror films debut during the month after Christmas and find audiences. Will Don't Be Afraid of the Dark keep that trend alive? Only time will tell.
This was a pretty cool TV movie with Kim Darby and the little furry things coming after her. Maybe they'll give her a cameo.

In the original, IIRC
Spoiler:
they got her! Dragged her down to the cellar.
