Without watching the first part of the movie, was it ever established Goose wasn't a pilot? Goose was a RIO (Radar Intercept Officer). A RIO could be a pilot that's acting as a RIO. Viper even offered to be Maverick's RIO in the movie.

"Goose" got his nickname because he crashed a plane into the ocean. He was a pilot...he wasn't a GOOD pilot, which is why he was Maverick's RIO. But he was a pilot.

I’m surprised there still isn’t a solid release date for this yet. Saw a trailer for it over the weekend, but it just said coming soon or coming in 2022 or something like that. Wonder why Paramount is holding it back still.

I watched Top Gun for the first time (I know) about a week or two ago, in prep for this movie. It was as silly as expected and of course stuck in 80's cliches. But it was entertaining enough.

I wonder how they handled Kilmer's voice...had his son dub his lines like they did in the documentary? They sound remarkably similar

I think Kilmer has some actual scenes not just a photo.

I expect him to be on his death bed, or his voice wrecked from some sort of injury in combat or accident.

Speaking of which, did they really need to spell out that this was Iceman from the first film by saying "AKA Iceman" when showing the picture. I always found the wording of the between flight exposition in the first one hokey so I guess it fits. Still, sounds goofy.

I have a feeling this is going to be one of those rare sequels that is better than the original. The stunts and real use of fighter jets is going to be jaw dropping. The story looks pretty good too.
